Yeah, the primer gray and green boat with a tower and an outboard was like some sort of bastard stepchild.

I believe one of the main problems with the Baja, Donzi, Fountain, and Pro-Line mass company is no identity. GM had some what of the same issue. Hence the closing of Oldsmobile and Pontiac. Let's not forget that GM went under ( I consider a government buyout going under). The market is crap we all agree on that. If they were going to make this work they need to stop competing with one another. Make Pro-line your cc company, make Baja your 30' and under boats. Small performance boats and some bowriders. Then make Donzi or Fountain your 30'+ boats and get rid of the other name.
Just my .02 but every big company has had to downsize since the market fell. |

Just my .02 but every big company has had to downsize since the market fell. GM has cut down on duplicate models but keep in mind they still have GMC and Chevy trucks in addition to the Cadillac SUV line which is really just fancy Tahoes/Suburbans. |

Baja is basically a gateway drug. Once you start, its just a stepping stone for the rest of the hardcore stuff.
It is important for the sport to keep the Baja line in existance. |
The only way I see it working out is selling them each (Donzi & Fountain) to someone who will take the brand and run with it, the way Skip has done with Cigarette. As much as I don't care for Baja personally, I agree that they need to remain in business for the good of the sport. Whoever makes the final decision on some of the recent Baja designs needs to be fired though. I could care less about Pro-Line as it doesnt even make sense in a group of performance boats.

100% agree but........the Fountain CC was one of the best boats on the market and better than any Proline ever built.

I really hate to say this but I just don't see any way the "sport boat" category ever coming back to it's heyday. I, like I am sure many of the guys here, am in the 40-60 age group. When I was in my 20s my dream boat was on TV every Friday night
http://teamspeed.com/forums/attachme...8&d=1220371688 So when I got to the point in my life with a boat was an option, it was going to be a speed boat. Scarab, Formula, Donzi, Fountain, Velocity were all aspirational boats for all of my friends and we would gladly live in a crappy house or drive an old truck to have a cool speed boat. And that all of the girls we knew thought we were cool was a bonus for sure. Go ask any 20 year old what their dream boat is and I bet most will say a wake board boat, and the girls in their age group will more than likely agree. http://www.iboats.com/sites/tige/sit...mages/l_2s.jpg Granted there are exceptions, but for the most part, what we consider sport boats are now "old man boats" just like we thought the V-drive and Jet boats were "old man boats" when we got into the scene. There is still allot of money to be made in the industry by selling to the rich old men, but they want a full custom, not a production sport boat. Just me $0.02 based on my personal observations .... |

Maybe so, but I see 15 to 1 more ProLines here on the coast than Fountain CCs. If I own a boat manufacturer I know where I'd be putting my money.
