Just cause that Skater is for sale at 700k, don't mean that's what it will sell for.

I hear what your saying , I guess it's all about the buyer willing to spend the $$'s

My reason for posting this info , is just to say that performance boats are becoming out of reach for most people to afford even on the lower end of sub $ 200 k is a lot of money for most to afford or even to justify the purchase price .
Every one is different and most times it comes down to preference and justification whether its a boat or a steak .
I went to Ruth Chris 3 week's ago and yes the food was good , but I didn't think it was worth 4 times the price of another steakhouse, just the same way I don't think a boat of same size is worth 2 , 3 or 4 times as much , YES the quality is a little bit better but I cant justify the Huge cost increase for just a little bit of quality increase , but some can and thats fine for them

I have built many new boats and added up all the receipts always alot more than i figured. I am redoing a 30 skater now. My 2 cents on some numbers to build a new cat.
- 60,000 Motors wing plates tiebar
- 10,000 smartcraft, throttles, steering system, gauges
- 7,000 mis. rigging batteries, brackets, hardware, steering wheel, ect.
- 4,000 props
- 7,500 rigging labor
- 9,000 trailer
- 4,000 covers
- 5,000 windshield
- 7,500 interior
- 4,000 gps, sterio
-15,000 paint or vinyl
133,000 total
These numbers are very light, if they can build a quality boat for 67,000 they arent going to get rich.

This seems like a good deal and the economics appear to be awesome. I wonder how the size of this will compare to a 36' Sunsation or a 37' Active Thunder. Hard to make calls on ride but wonder how it will handle the water. The few renderings make it look to be a winner.

I am a big fan of Sunsation and AT but I suspect this cat will run away from both if the seas are less than 3 ft and there is talent behind the wheel.

You are correct on your numbers but don't forget:

Material Costs - (fiberglass/wood/core/resin) or more expensive (carbon fiber/epoxy/vacuum bagging)
Labor Costs - to layup the hull and deck
Mold Production Costs - building the molds
Design Costs - pre-production and post production research, design and development
Overhead Costs - Building, front office, misc. labor, marketing, boat shows, transportation, etc.
Insurance Costs

That eats up the $67,000 difference pretty quickly.
There can be $100,000+ difference just in the types of material used. Carbon Fiber & Epoxy through out a boat versus fiberglass & resin or a combination there of.

Years ago when I had my Kryptonite built (2003) - I remember talking to the owner of the company and he was telling me how his cost of materials were directly related to the price of oil and when it double so did his material costs. Oil prices then were under $30 a barrel, in 2011 they hit $90 and today we are back to $40. There are so many variables that need to be looked at when breaking down the cost of something like these.
Sure we can use the Corvette versus Ferrari comparison but what I think is better is comparing a 2003 Ferrari 360 to 2003 Ferrari Enzo. Both are 2003 Ferraris and built in the same plant but one is radically different than the other.
