Have you considered testing true twins vs a big single?

I drilled the holes for the steering helm, then when the removable steering wheel adapter came in it needed a bigger hole. I was trying to figure out how to hole saw a bigger hole when there is nothing for the pilot bit. I put some bigger bolts in the holes used to bolt the helm and let them be the hole saw guide. It worked pretty good.

you could also have used those bolts to put a piece of plywood over the hole, but I am going to try and remember this trick for the next time this happens to me.

Way to go, McGyver.

Total rookie question: In case of a large enough hull breach, such that pumps cannot keep up, can the water intake be modified with a mechanism to close and redirect intake from the bilge. Permits the engines to assist the pumps. (Maybe I've watched too many SciFi movies.)

For future reference, you can use the original hole saw inside the larger one for a pilot.

Lol I just did this but cutting a small piece of wood and using a BFH to secure it into the hole. This allowed an anchor point for my pilot drill to start.

Tyson great thread.

I went to the hole saw drawer, and played around for awhile. The smaller hole saw I used had a smaller drive size to where I would not be able to screw it on the same drive, and it was shorter in length so it would not stick out as a pilot. It had to much clearance to just put the small one partially in the hole and let the big one spin around it. But that looks like it would work good with two that are close in size. I have used another piece of wood over the hole before but wanted my center to be really close and that would take longer then what I did. I have a lathe so Skate's idea I could have made work pretty good.
This is what is good about the build threads are people coming up with different ideas.
