May as well check its cholesterol levels, blood pressure and prostate while you're at it!

Fresh water is cleaner, no argument but maintenance is still the key to longevity. Ive never been concerned about salt water, only concerned with how the boat has been maintained. Everything washed and dried before putting the boat away. Engine(s) flushed meticulously, closed cooling certainly better but don't rule out raw water cooled if it's been loved.

If the boat has suffered because of salt water, you'll be able to see it very easily. Corrosion and damage on anything metal, bolts, fittings etc. look carefully, if you can't see any corrosion or salt residue anywhere then she's probably been well looked after.

Surveys aren't perfect but would give you some peace of mind.

Agree with RAK on the maintenance part. Years ago we used to boat in salt water (Long Island) but we were very picky with our maintenance. Every time we went out, it got washed top to bottom. A well maintained salt water boat is not a bad choice. Now we boat in fresh water, and the maintenance is certainly less, but still necessary. Overall condition, maintenance, and maint. records if possible, count for a lot.

5 years of fresh water equals 1 year of salt.

Salt water or fresh water argument will go forever and will usually polarize the community.

To the op, if you're concerned, have a read of this thread and make up your own mind......

It's an interesting thread, lots of good comments from both sides, lots of stupid ones too but its good reading!

Thanks guys, 27Daytona nice Fountain but I need something more family friendly. The sonic looks nice, and the activator looks like a nice piece, just want to stay with stock power. Thanks

Some options for you to think about
You can also negotiate for less power on those boats
Buy boat and sell motor
This way you can buy a brand new stock motor with warranty and boat worry free
