Outerlimits / Eliminator SV29

Hi!

How many did Outerlimits build, and did Eliminator finish more than one?

For me the SV29 is a dream boat, The pity is that Norwegian currency is 60% less worth towards USD than for a year ago...

Cheeers, Toffen

skater40 03-13-2016 02:33 PM

I believe Eliminator built just one.

Unlimited jd 03-13-2016 03:59 PM

Last I talked to Paul, they weren't happy with a few techniques implemented by eliminator. Maybe acceptable to them and standard boat building but wasn't up to the expectations of outerlimits principles. Molds still owned by o/l but I have no idea if they were shipped back to Bristol.

fglightning 03-13-2016 04:46 PM

I talked to Paul at the Miami boat show this year. He told me eliminator is no longer building the 29. If I would order a new 29 it would come from them.

My calif buddy says the molds are still in calif

1 29 Race boat, 2 with 600sci, orange one and the red and black one we built for stock, one with 565 to a guy in Wisconsin, Eliminator built one.

Also one with a V10 right?

BrettM 03-14-2016 02:33 PM

Yes, Peters. Forgot that one.

The orange one was the one that went for a swim!:eekdrop:

Went over while OL was testing it.

It was a sold/customer's boat going for a test drive with another potential client when the incident happened.

Knot 4 Me 03-15-2016 03:00 PM

Faulty trim tab indicator lead to too much tab input or something along those lines. Freak deal, Doc and Brian can attest to the fact that the boat can stay right side up in conditions and speed that few would ever dare run the boat.

TCBoss302 03-15-2016 03:45 PM

Okay, to be exact, below are the facts from Dustin.....

Again, you don't have any real facts and you just keep posting the same thing. Mike was driving, Mr. Makepeace was passenger. Mike knows what happen, and I've mentioned, as others have. Its simple, they made a speed run, mike was playing with the tabs because of the side wind pushing the boat. He tabbed up, and according to the indicator, they were all the way up when he slowed down a little and made a left turn. The boat leaned out instead of neutral or in which it always does with tabs up. It then caught an edge before Mike could correct, and it pitched both Mike and John out. It then skipped and rolled 180deg after. While the boat was in the water, floating perfectly flat, you could see the port tab down, starboard tab up. This boat, the test boat and the 2nd production boat have made this turn many times.

,

I have nothing against Eliminator boats, hope to own one someday...and I also love the paint jobs that Eliminator does on all of their boats...they've built so many boats over their lifetime...anyways:

The SV29 when OL was building them was all carbon and went through post-curing process in an auto-clave...that boat is tuff

wouldn't mind owning the one that flipped either..just solid solid boats!

if you're thinking of getting one, look for the ones built at OL...the one built at Elim proly has a lower price_point

just my .02c

Such a beautiful boat. Well...all the OLs are.

twinscrews 03-16-2016 08:31 AM

So Eliminator and Ol both build them? Wasn't the orange boat at the Miami Boat show?

Rollin1405 03-16-2016 08:52 AM

OL is the only one that is building a 29' from now on.

Eliminator was suppose to be making all the 29's going forward (they made one), but it looks like OL will be the ones building them going forward (if they have a desire/need to build one). Yes, the orange boat was at the MBS several years ago.

there is a used 29 at the Eliminator Factory now for sale but it is not the one that they built. It was built by OL My friend saw it today. He says the paint has multiple chips in it everywhere

That is correct ... boat has just 29hrs on it ... 2012 model year...the boat was painted as all OL boats are ...

This OL is here in CA for re-sale.

Eliminator ONLY uses gelcoat, which is much more durable than any paint.

Here's a picture of the boat we built that currently runs out of Toronto Canada.

This is the boat Performance Boat Center built for stock and then retailed. It was painted, not gel coat. Sold to a guy in South Texas.

Toffen 03-17-2016 01:07 PM

Hi!

Do anyone know what kind of paint OL use?

Would be interesting to know as I had to paint my boat last year due to a water craft crashed into the boat when moored and caused a 2,5 meters hole in it.

Cheeers, Toffen

Using care with your 150k+ boat works better than using gel instead of paint.

peterunwin 03-17-2016 04:59 PM

We have the SV29 Ilmor/ Indy it has now covered over 200 hours mostly in the ocean and we have beaten the crap out of it, we run a lot in Key West and we go boating when the fisherman won't leave port and i have to say for a small boat it's sea keeping is excellent, even when you land hard on a chine it does not flex, your body would give up way before the boat. Our boat is still immaculate no cracks, crazing or any structural defects. When Eliminator started spouting about how much weight they had saved with inferior resins and layup my conclusion was they have made it into a lake boat, you can't possibly use inferior materials, make it lighter and finish up with a boat that you can take out into the ocean and beat the crap out of . So my view would be only buy an SV29 that is built by Outerlimits.

shueman 03-17-2016 07:12 PM

So, your saying that Eliminator used "inferior" materials? Please expand on this ...

Bostonirish 03-17-2016 08:13 PM

Always thought this was an odd partnership or whatever it was. Not knocking Eliminator at all cuz I don't know much about them. Just seemed confusing from the get go as to who owned what.

Yes I agree with you,,,,,, That hull can stay upright in the most challenging conditions and with speed. This is from KW ,,( either 2013 or 2014? ) ,

msrp $228,885 minus sale price $139,900 equals $88,895 divided by utilization of 55 hrs equals $1,618.00

Did they pick Eliminator because they had access (or maybe they have) an autoclave big enough to cure that layup? A lot of autoclaves out there due to the aircraft industry.... Just curious, would make sense paired with the effort to sell boats on the West coast.

Does OL have a 50' autoclave in house? That would be impressive to see.

That's a very strong and derogatory statement about Eliminator, what is your justification? Personally I think Eliminator have consistently produced excellent and durable boats for many years.

CLA 03-18-2016 09:08 AM

My Elim is carbon/Kevlar. Things are very detailed ie: double through bolted rub rail with double poly lock nuts. Please explain Peter?
