New Bertram Copper Kettle Model
#12
Did the Bertram hull go onto become any of the boats we know today? We all know the Cigarette lineage but does Bertram have a similar history?
It was very competitive boat back in the day and I would be shocked if the design wasn't carried forward.

No the model will not motorized. But I'm looking for a good model engine, drive and parts builder. I did find this builder http://finemodelcars.com/us/ferrari-...e-at-14-scale/ It looks like big bucks!!

I'm shocked that no one got a hold of the mold or modeled another hull from the 38' Comp. It's actually shocking to me!

That design was very fast and very easy to spin out if you did not have experience to handle it. Even with Sammy James handling the throttles and trim in Vincentive, Vince Fasano would arrive back at the finish line looking like a bloody pulp. At one race, Sammy pulled up for the checkered flag and they told him the boat was disqualified. Sammy looked confused and they told him that every boat has to return to the finish with the same number of crew they started with. Sammy laughed and reached down in the cockpit and pulled Vince up off the floor and asked..."Does this count?"

Here is a another man that used to run Bertrams. This is new old stock patch that I found roughly 6"x10" . It should have been put on the backside of a shirt or a coat but was never used. And if anybody's wondering it's not for sale at this time it is staying in my collection.

Don't ask me where I got the drives and trim tabs - it was more than 15 years ago, however I remember they were not inexpensive - around 1,800 for the hardware on the transom. My Brother Peter, our Still Photographer rigged the model.
Enjoy ! Phil
