I had the manual silent choice on my checkmate with HP500 I used it once. The next 4 years it stayed open. It was funny when I first bought the boat my uncles who live on a local lake told me I would like the noise for the first 15 minutes then get sick of it. Well I'm still not sick of it! The best part was teaching our 2 year old "what sound does a boat make?" And having her give her best impression of thru hull sound " woooaaah wooahhh"

I run this here in Pa on rivers etc and it's loud
It has cans on the big block Chevy but it's typical bad airboat loud
It sounds good at idle and while blipping the throttle but when on it its ear muff loud
I have never been stopped or bothered
Again I'm on remote river stretches but the only time I've been approached by officers is for them to ask me to take then someplace on the river they can't access with their boats

For me something that sounds like this is music to my ears
