I was going to mention the 24 single also. A 25 motion with twin Merc 2.5 200s will run 100 with setup. With limited setup we could see 94 everyday in 90* + air and humidity with three different hulls. I have twin rebuilt 2.5 225 promaxes on my 25 Talon. I can run 85 mph with 60 to 70 gallons of fuel with two adults, 100 lbs of coolers and crap in true 2' to 3' lake swells You have to run between 60 and 80 to stay on top. Every 100 lb. skank thrown overboard is worth 1 mph in my Talon. Whats the link to your resort Rat? I'm ready to come down sometime this year. I love me sum Colombian women!

Tuff 21 with 300 breaks 100mph, have not seen one in person but like the look and have heard good things quality wise. I would think a 21 anything that goes over 85 would give plenty of thrills, 100 might cause some brown staining for the uninitiated.

I would love to help you but you are experienced and should be able to read between the lines.

A 28 Daytona will run 100 with 300XS' But no more than 2ft waves. I had 496 mags in mine and got 1.5 mpg going 90 and 2 mpg going 70, with the 300Xs should be about 50% better.

I also want to buy a 29/30 diesel powered boat for hauling supplies, so just trying to figure out what will work best for me.

Thx for all the feed back. Im gonna start looking in the classifieds here and over on scream and fly. I want something sorted out and turn key as getting parts etc here is a huge pita... rm

Im really looking for something that will cruise in the 80s without working too hard. Top ends not critical just figured if a boat tops out at about 100 it should cruise at 85 in mild water... rm

. My 22' progression ran 94 mph with 300xs,and would run through 2'ers all day.And yes it has a 24 degree variable deadrise V bottom, and build quality is second to none. And that was with bunk cushions and full gear.

Progressions are stout boats, this would be a great choice.

If you could be happy with a 60-70 mph cruise, find an I/O 28 Daytona and put some used Yanmar 6LP's in it. It will top out at about 75 (3800-4000 rpm), but you can cruise all day at 3600 RPM which should be somewhere 60-70 and you will be getting 3 mpg or so. And the ride will be a million times better than any small v hull you are considering.

This is the best thread you ever started. I like the suggestions from the posters to provide their first hand experience, let's keep the real world exoperience coming. I like the Tuff, Progression, and that single o/b 24' Skater, great suggestions.

This boat has to be small and light so i can pull it daily. Down the road i play to go to the states for a couple months and build a 41 offshore boat with 8.3 cummins and asd drives but thats probably two years out.
It would be a nice ride tho, but the laws down here anything carry passengers for hire must have two equal hp engines in it... this will be just something fast to play in and run errands..rm

I just heard that you were awarded the 2016 Gloria Steinem Award for the advancement of Feminism in Columbia.....Good Job!

Now give all that social work a break and get back to your focus on pretty boats and fast women.

Stay healthy.

Matt Trulio 04-17-2016 10:37 AM

Wouldn't at least part of the answer rest on what sort of "two-footers" you're talking about?

Because if you're talking about the washing machine two-footers on Lake Michigan, you're going to need a bigger boat.

AZMIDLYF 04-17-2016 11:57 AM

There seems to be some history involved here. :hitfan:

iliveonanisland 04-17-2016 12:10 PM

Yeah the water where the island is is strange washing machine slop... no sets of waves like the atlantic or gulf of mexico.

If i leave the island at 6:20 i will be at the super market at 7 and on my way back to the island before 8am... usually its dead calm early am so i can run hard going in and run 3/4 on the way out.

No one has a boat around here that will run over about 55... no one. The local made boats are all 14 or 18 degree pos build quality, the captains always cut power and never launch off a wave, these boats wont take it, i have never seen so many boat with the gel coat delaminating... and fiberglass repairs the idiots scuff the area by hand with some sandpaper and start slopping on resin and matt... you have never seen such horrible workmanship anywhere!

Hey charlie how you doing? Hows the cigarette resto coming?

Sexism is so rampant in these latin american countries that gloria s would probably be stoned to death if she ever made a public speech down here lol...

Charlie we are doing a social project here on isla mucura, where my hostel is located.
so many of the locals are illiterate.

So we are going to have reading and conservation classes for the island kids, and will also offer spanish immersion classes. We are talking with several gals now to fill this dual role position right now. Rm

Hey charlie do you have the 24ft banana boat molds? What kind of money in materials does it take to build one boat.

How many hours to layup the hull and how many hours to layup the deck?

Would love to build some boats down here in a couple years, when my other two businesses are rockin. I will be looking for something else to get into...rm

Thats exactly the kind of water we have down here, i think im going to go with a superboat, challenger, or progression, prob the SB as there are a lot more of them out there...

I dont plan on running it wfo in big water, but in the am when its calm i can let her rip.. and still run 60 in the slop... i had a 21 donzi which with the bbc trs was much heavier than a SB with an eggbeater, if it handles the waves even close to as well as the donzi it will be perfect for my needs... rm

Congrats on your literacy program, admirable. A few guys have asked for a price for a hull and deck and I am trying to get some bids. I will be back up north in a couple of weeks and will have a price for you after that. Remember my 24 is 8 feet wide, not 7 feet like the Superboat or P&D or others.

I have molds for both the 24 and 28 with center console layouts and sport deck layouts. Also can make them with either outboard well, so the motor is on the transom or flat transom and you can put the motor out on a bracket. When I get a chance I will post some photos for you.

There is a 280 Velocity on Baton Rouge Craigslist that might meet your specs.
Not a cat, but might be worth a look.
I don't know anything about it, but have seen it and it's clean.

We're cool, always have been....there are some great suggestions for boats in this thread. I have been thinking the exact same thing, about a 20-24 boat, o/b power fast, fun to drive, not an overly tense motor that needs work, but a reliable, fuel efficient hot-rod. Great thread, with some afforadbale nice boats being suggested.
