Young and dumb on our family 16ft Sugar sand jet boat -- on our first day of a week long vacation at Houghton Lake we used to stick it in reverse and "dip" the nose a bit. I may have been a little overzealous in my late teens (maybe early 20's???) and basically did it at WOT. I've never seen a boat bury itself that fast ever, like straight down right now. Boat full of water and I got it back moving again only to notice one of the rear seat cushions was floating out of the boat behind me, when I lifted off the throttle to reach back and grab the cushion all the water sloshed forward in the engine compartmant and the engine went from 4000rpm to zero awful quick...that was the end of that merc 210 V6 2-stroke.
Come to think of it...boating was way better when someone else was paying for all the stupidity...Sponsors?

Well it all started for me when I bought a used boat from National Marine, a swell fella there named Bill Hionas sold me a great boat with a missing title. Made cash payments to him until he got it all squared away at the bank. I didn't really care because I was building an awesome new boat with Frisina custom marine and I was going to trade the used boat to Oregon Custom Marine in Arizona. They gave me top dollar on trade towards the new boat. The new boat was going to be all custom with lots of parts from Trick Marine, it was going to be one of a kind. Now the money was really going to be rolling in because I invested in Enron and a small marina project in Lake of the Ozarks called "SuckerCat Cove" with a local developer, speed boat aficionado named Jimmy Darr. Now Jimbo was telling me to put special high HP motors in my new boat along with his new patented Poly-Carbonate windshield. It was all top secret stuff and surely I would win the shootout with all the Amish fans watching. Jim was running for student council and working a top secret deal with Amish partners on some new high performance stuff.
Well the project hit a few glitches and I ended up trading a sweet Rolex I got from an NFL player named Big Scotty for some rebuilt Cobra motors. I was told they were the best used parts my fake Rolex would buy!

I didn't do it but my buddy did this past weekend.
We spent the night out on the hook in his 42 foot cruiser. The starboard battery was old and sounded like it when we went to start it the next morning, being the House frig and lights ran off it.
So while I was working on scraping the bottom I hear ol chit.
He went t to switch around the batteries as the Port battery was brand new. And hooked one negative to positive.
5 seconds hooked up wrong Fried the alternator , the big wire running from the starter to the alternator . The stereo and amps.
Hopefully the inverter /charger is Allright.
I was shocked there as no Fusible Link on the positive wire going from the starter to the alternator .

Back many years ago I built my first motor. Consequently was probably the best running motor I have had.....for the short 5 hour period of time it was operational. Long story short, I forgot to weld the oil pump pickup. It happened to fall off on a day where my alternator also gave out so my gauges were all going haywire. Ended up spinning 4 main bearings. That cost me two years without a boat as I scrambled to pay for an all new shortblock......Expensive education it was!
Will somebody please tell me again why I love this sport so much and can't keep motors stock? Haha.
