Not the last surveyor I dealt with. I was standing right there when he did all this....It took a few hours.

Went over the entire hull, visually and with a moisture meter.
Checked battery voltages, hoses, belts, all switches, lights, interior.
Compression check on all cylinders
Sea trial, recorded temps, pressures, etc at different RPMs, checked WOT RPMs, speed, checked temps with an infared gun.
Thoroughly checked the trailer.

He found stuff about my own boat that I didn't know, sent the buyer a full report with dozens of hi-res pictures.

A legitimate survey would of probably saved this guy a lot of trouble.

At the very least sue both of them for something, they should not get away with that BS, unbelievable but then again maybe not.

Eh, skip the lawyers and go deliver some street justice. Tell the police they are Trump supporters and you were just protesting that. No charges will be filed. It sucks your dream boat and you are having to go through that, but I for one have learned a lesson from your debacle. Third party survey and rigorous sea trial. Good luck!

Here is how that will go:

1. Seller- will deny knowledge or say he was mislead on the repair
2. Broker- will say didn't know about it, wasn't disclosed to him as he is just the middleman
3. Surveyor will say it wasn't there when he did his survey the prior month.

Atleast you didn't pay the surveyor for his sh!tty survey!

Good luck with the new boat......looks sweet!

Dan ended up hooking me up with Bill Burke from Northwood Marine Services, a local surveyor who had just happened to survey this boat for another perspective buyer about 30 days prior, whose finances fell through.

Maybe the other buyer's finances didn't fall through, maybe he saw the damage and backed out? It would be nice if you could gather that info, because IF that is the case, seems like it should give you (& your attorney) something to work with on an "intent to commit fraud" lawsuit...

I am betting that since you gave no "consideration" for the survey (basically did not pay for it), the surveyor will be left out of it. What a shame for the industry.....

Bill Burke from Northwood Marine Services. I will try to remember that one, avoid at all costs.

It's either collusion or hideous incompetence on the part of Bill Burke. Either way, I doubt anyone would trust him to survey their next purchase after reading this thread.

The dilemma............ Countless times I read on here how important a pre-purchase survey is. Damned if you do, damned if you don't!

Sorry about your misadventures, boat looks great, pleased to read you're getting on and fixing things properly. Hope all goes well and your back in the water soon.

Very sad story. you are doing the best thing. Repair and continue you and yours dream. I do believe in justice. Street justice is the way I prefer. Have built 1000's of engines for people and they can destroy them so quickly. Many bad stories here. What you didn't put oil in ? I need to set the timing ?, it needs coolant ? ETC. The legal system is as corrupt as a poor used car dealer. Insert Little old lady story here. You get the justice you can afford. Best thing is what your doing. Best of luck on the repair and the rest of the boating season.

Sorry but making a point here so others possible will ask question beforehand having a survey done. - 80 % these survey people with all the BS credentials really are piss poor at what they do and 95 % really know nothing about the Mechanical side of boats period and or do not dig deep into that area of the boat. Most do not have a scan tool and if they do, they do not know how to use it nor how to read the depth of the scan. 99 % never even sat in 1 OEM marine training class period . So why would U want a person like this to check out your boat ?

Anyone can find a screw missing or a nick or faded gel cote, loose carpet, a window does not close properly, seal leaking at the deck hatch and so on. Really does that matter for an indepth inspection plus pay someone to tell you in a report about screws missing - hell its a boat screws are always loose.

I just read a survey from a Mid west person and in the report talked about a cover plate missing, cup holders missing, bench seat torn. engine hatch bracket loose, windscreen faded with checked marks, engine intake has rusted areas, rusted bolts, bilge looks to be oily possible oil leak, outdrive has missing paint, spark pug wires look to be original still have Mercruiser on them, key switch loose, trim gauge not reading, steering wheel tilt very hard to operate. and so on and so on, really wow what indepth.

I laugh my azz off reading alot of these guys reports weekly. No depth, no mechanical depth at all, no scan reports, No fuel pressure reading at varies rpms and so many more missing pieces to the puzzle that is needed and completely missed. Maybe they send off an oil sample wow thats hard work. My wife can do that.

Wish some of U guys would post these surveys up here and I will pick it apart extremely bad without even looking at the boat in question. Anyways find one hell of a real marine mechanic that knows his chit plus knows the set up well that you are going to possible buy. Pay him well to survey your boats.

Yachts a different story using a surveyor - sportboats huge waste of money with a lot of systems missed especially the mechanical side.

Who owns LCM currently

SORRY for what happened to the OP but some common practices in the marine world and huge lack of professionalism along with lack of honesty and lazy most likely. The mighty dollar is all what most care about these days not the best interest for the end user.
