Although complete details are not available, speedonthewater.com has confirmed that Art McMahan's 388 Skater flipped coming back from today's Cheeseburger in Paradise lunch during the Pirates of Lanier Poker Run. Search and rescue teams are on the scene.

Terrible. I hear no jackets let's hope for the best.

Sydwayz 07-15-2016 04:59 PM

I moved this to a new thread vs. being on one of the picture threads.

Keep the occupants in your thoughts and prayers.

from another site:

Complete details are not available at this time but PowerBoat Nation is live at Lake Lanier and we can confirm a catamaran belonging to Art McMahan was reported overturned. The initial reports are that 4 or 5 occupants were onboard and two bodies have been recovered. The Fire Dive Rescue Team is on scene working the incident. We will provide updates as accurate information becomes available. Our thoughts and prayers go out to their family and friends. More details will be posted as they become available.

Not good......

Jeebus, that looks like the rear bolsters sitting on the shore :(. Prayers for all involved...

Marginmn 07-15-2016 05:21 PM

From a friend who was there, Art and his wife, and his good buddy Anthony Reese (Saddle Up) and his wife Tammy are all gone.

They were all Lake Cumberland boaters. I ran Poker runs with Anthony years ago when we both had 38 Fountains - way before Saddle Up. You would not find nicer more down to earth people than Anthony and Tammy - despite their obvious success. I am sick as can be. I am at a loss for words. God's speed.

Marginmn 07-15-2016 06:18 PM

Another friend is telling me that there were 6 in the boat - including another well known performance boater in the community. I"ll just wait until the official reports come out rather than tell second and third hand reports This is just a sad sad day for the Lake Cumberland performance boating community.

from early reports i am not sure that made any difference but regardless its a time to remember life and people and not what they or we should have done or did

Terrible news!!! Prayers for the departed and the ones left behind. Rip

Cat & Mice 07-15-2016 10:28 PM

Nate,

I think this is the best time to talk about things like Lifejackets. Lessons like this are written in blood and the pain needs to be real for people to take it seriously. I don't think its disrespectful to learn from accidents, in fact I think the opposite. If I were to die in a way that could have been avoided I would want people to learn form my mistakes.

Crashes like this are absolutely horrible and as sad as can be. But we need to learn from them. Year after year there are deadly accidents at boat events and still I see so many people moving fast in boats without simple life saving devices.

So I second Jrider, Please Please wear life jackets out there. So many reasons why they help. at a minimum it could make the recovery easier.

RIP.......

Mike
