Bad electrolysis . You have a grounding issue going on there.

Most likely your transom is shot.

well i found the exact issue today. cracked transom assembly. not the news i wanted. expecting transom repairs for sure.

Sorry to hear.

HP transom assemblies are about 2,300 each. Don't screw with trying to rebuild those - just buy new ones. I've gone through mine twice trying to save money and regretted it each time

Looks like it was "patched" and painted to hide the band-aid..

Just read this thread. I have an inner bravo plate that's not doing anything. BUT.. I hope I won't need it. I have a similar issue. 1994 boat, bravo1. Didn't use it for a few months but started it off and on. Trailer issue, fixed, took it out, water coming in just bellow the shaft. As far as I can tell. Bellow replaced, old was good, Shifting bellows replaced etc. test, water coming in. Actually faster. I do have "Y" pipes. (not meaning to hijack.. but I'm stumped too. )
Transom seems ok, plates etc, not moving. U joint inside bellows looked new. ?????
