25 Checkmate all the way. I had one and it was a great boat. It is a
true stand up boat,(good freeboard). Has A great cabin. Its fast, and best of all its
all nose. It truly looks like a offshore boat for a 25 footer.

obviously im a newbie, but i have to jump in here....i can not believe that checkmate is winning this poll, the checkmate is not a bad boat, but from what i hear and read shouldnt the pantera be on top???? also id like to through one other bot in the mix here.....the 257 Mirage. Mirage is no longer in business but they did build one he!! of a boat in there day. The 257 always had a straight bottom, and thses boats could handle some rough water (within reason of course it is only a 25). The marina i worked for was a very successful Mirage dealer for years and we have stuck some big power in these boats and seen some amazing results. There is a 257 Mirage in LaCrosse WI that runs mid 90s SAFLEY with a whippled 509...anyway just wondering who else out there has had or has a Mirage?????? and what do you think about them???? - Andrew

Hi!

We tried out a twin 2.5 SS this last october. It was rigged fast, but we managed to squeeze out more than 90 mph. With more seat time and tuning, I presume we could hit 95 mph +. It ran on rails and balance was just fine. We mounted the engines on a 1 inch bracket, 23 inches senterline to senterline, 15# inches midsections, 30# chopper props spinning in, modified Sea Star Pro hydraulic steering (next time latham), etc. The acceleration was awesome.

However, the fuelmilage was horrendous as you have to pay 5,5 USD per gallon. The engines consumed 30 gallon per hour at 4.500 rpms...

I will add another PM 300 SVS if I can afford it this summer. The two Merc 2.5 SS engines were not mine. I borrowed them for the week end... For a blast!

A Phantom 23 made in kevlar with twin 2.5 SS engines ran 115 mph in UK.... Enclosed a picture. Pls remember that both Phantom 23 and Phantom 25 is made for offshore racing, and I have outrun many 30 foot "speedboats" in 4-6 foot seas...

The 25 Sunsation was a fast boat, but could be a handfull to drive and didn't have much interior space. I do agree that if you are the type that likes to hang it out in a single engine boat in rough water, the 25 Sunsation was a lot of fun.

I would pick the Superboat, I have heard they make a quality boat although have never actually been on one, plus for resale you would not be competeting against a ton of the same boat manufacturer. Howeever, I also can say that we had a 89 Baja (25' Sport) and it too was a good boat the nine years we owned it.
