help. move large yacht? on a ship?
hey all. its been some time since i've been around here. being boatless sucks....
I am just thinkin..... say a fella wanted to get a large yacht from Washington state to New Jersey. A-drive it? 7,200 miles through some "bad neighborhoods"..... Na ! B- Truck it? 80 feet long, 19.5 feet wide and 11.5 feet tall..... Not real easy but doable. C- Put it on a ship...... I'm interested in the ship idea. I know some of you have moved boats by ship. who would you even call? what would it cost? Thanks for any input,Joe |
Drive it. No worries on "bad" neighborhoods. People run the canal daily.

I see boats that size being trucked from the east coast to Seattle often. The trucks take some weird routes to do it.

What 80 foot boat is only 11.5 tall? Non permit height is 13.5 .
20 foot wide is Way wide. Permits and hauling probably 60 thousand minimum . 10 thousand for marina fees and removing and installing over height items. My buddies 42 foot 1985 Silverton was over 16in height with the flybridge on . Cost 7000 to take the flybridge on and off. Another 8000 for the marina and truck. This was simply from Michigan to Florida. He went the Mississippi route , spent 16 thousand on fuel instead. |

Cant let the cat out yet but its an open express style. just a windshield and radar arch. 11'6 tall leaves you a foot an a half for the trailer and still under height. but yes the beam is the real issue! Your probably close on your estimate to truck. Im gonna call about putting on a ship now that I have a contact (THANKS)..... see what happens. I'm thinking 24 days and 60k in fuel to drive it by water myself plus cannal fees, plus repairs, plus aswering questions for shooting pirates....:picard1: Thanks everyone for all the input so far.
