I have a local general machinist in Severn that can make anything you could think of. I'll send you a pm with a name and number. He is extremely well versed in power transmission components.

if they are stainless they would have to be custom I would think, the ones in my Casale V-drive are both steel.

Hey mxz, being it spins up to 5000 rpms tolerances are pretty tight. The only thing I can find out from Casale of what they are made from is “Aircraft alloy steels” which who knows what it is being they use that line in every advertisement. I now don’t think they are stainless steel being they are magnatic.
Micky, I will call him tomorrow. I live in Pasadena, Severn is around the corner.
Comp, I think you are right.
I finished taking them apart and did some real measurements. They are even simpler than I thought.

Actually those tolerances are not tight at all.... lol..... I don't see why they would need to be ground. Also there is magnetic stainless but it is doubtful that they are.

f_in, I'm helping a friend repower a boat and will most likely use Casale v-drives. Could I pick your brain sometime about the drives and the company? I don't have much experience with them. I'm local...Annapolis area.

I think you are better off making new ones. A pre-hard 4340 would be a good material. You really need to determine the ID of the gears and spec for a press fit. Then look up the bearing specs and get a recommended fit also.

If you get stuck I have a local guy here in FL that can do it. We have the equipment but not the time

Thanks folks for the help. Took them to a local guy. He seemed to know all the same people that I trusted in the area and came across as knowing what he is doing. Making new. Have my fingers crossed.

Mickeymcclgn’s guy (Robert) kicked ass.
Two day turn around, great guy, listens, gives great feedback, extremely cheap, does great work… You need a machinist in Maryland get ahold of Mickey or me and we will pass his info along.
