Well at least it wasn't a brand new drive. I was running up near Drummond island and hit a dead head and ripped starboard drive right completely off the boat. Was running near 80 at 5,7,00. Had my handsfull but the driveshaft twisted off at ujoint. Boat was new with only 10 hours. Always wanted to get a diver but it was in over 130 ft of water and had no gps then. Was just glad to get back to shore.

I know a guy that the same thing happened to him , must have broke the shaft going forward and when he put reverse it spit the shaft out , so he had a good idea where it was , he came back with a guy with a bass boat with some high end 3-d fish finder and was able to pin point it and went diving .

I almost brought that up, a friend has one of those with a camera that you tow around with small tv screen in the boat. Definitely worth looking into.

Did you check their pockets after they surfaced? You might find your prop in the Swap Shop tomorrow!!

Bummer they couldn't locate it.

I don`t like to give up and I know that bastard is over there somewhere along with a $1800 shaft.
I was surprised a magnet stuck to my other prop , I`ll have to think of something along those lines.....maybe a long pvc pipe with some Neodymium Magnets attached , dragging it around with a jet ski lol

Curious what is the vis in lake Michigan? I would think at least 20 to 30 feet if not all riled up from storms.

My buddy in St Pete had his nice dive watch band clasp break while he was climbing through boats rafted out in Tampa bay for the fireworks this past 4 th of July .

We went out 3 days later with a very rough guesstimate where it was.unbelievably after an hour I said try over there and he dove down and came up with it a minute later.

No vis, and he was scared to death of bumping into a Bull Shark, but I told him he was allright as there were porpoises all over the place he was diving.

Metal detector or magnet rigged up with some hooks epoxied on it.
