USCG documentation

Anyone have experience with transferring ownership of a documented vessel.

HyFive578 11-17-2016 07:53 AM

Yes. What is your question?

F-2 Speedy 11-17-2016 07:56 AM

Ive found everything but this on USCG web site............how is it done, where is it sent to ?? I need to get this document into my name

thanks

Griff 11-17-2016 01:13 PM

Never had documented boat, but everything looks to be listed here to do a transfer.

There are also companies at LOTO that will do it for a fee.

VortechSS 11-17-2016 01:49 PM

Call Lake Ozarks Marine Documentation. They were a breeze to work with on my gun and new owner is using them also.

Thanks Griff,...............did it all on line, kinda pricy lol

Knot 4 Me 11-18-2016 07:10 AM

Yes the services make it easy but they will donkey punch you in the hiney with their fees.

F-2 Speedy 11-18-2016 07:31 AM

Funny thing is, KS wont send me my registration ( that I've paid for ) until I provide them a copy of the USCG doc. They had no problem taking my $$$ tho.

Edit: its winter, building new power, so Im in no hurry

ezstriper 11-18-2016 10:14 AM

why did you register if you are going to document ? its one or the other anywhere I know of, it takes a long time to get it done, My son just did it for his active thunder, be sure to print their bill of sale(they wont take any others) and have it notorized, figure 3-6 months on them getting it done...government operation...falling waters WVA

F-2 Speedy 11-18-2016 10:22 AM

If its USCG registered you still have to carry on the bow the state registration expiration year, but no numbers

I know this is true for IL and MO (I've had to register and run stickers in both) but got a buddy with a USCG registered boat in NB and he is not required to run registration sticker. So varies by state.

Sydwayz 11-18-2016 10:43 AM

You don't have to pay anyone to do this for you. Just read the back of the Documentation document.

Here is the back of the actual document where you transfer ownership. The certificate is not like a title that lasts forever without renewal. The documentation is renewed yearly, so make sure it isn't expired. Do not confuse your states registration requirements with your states sales tax requirements (if you have state sales tax). If you live in a title state it will also make your life easier in the long run to have the state issue the title even if it's a documented boat.

F-2 Speedy 11-18-2016 11:04 AM

Thanks all, I was able to do it on line with the information on the front of my signed by previous owner document.

NYS requires a valid Registration on the side of the boat.

True for Nebraska, but I think we are the only state that does not require some type of state sticker when USCG documented.

hustlerguy 11-18-2016 06:06 PM

Mn, wi, i know does not require state stickers if a documented boat.

F-2 Speedy 11-18-2016 06:30 PM

I have some pictures of my before I bought it and I don't see a registration sticker on the nose, so maybe I was miss informed

sheperd 11-19-2016 10:37 PM

Yes don't plan on seeing the new documents for at least three months. The wheels of government turn really slow. Maybe Trump can kick them in the hind end.

F-2 Speedy 12-07-2016 12:14 PM

Well, I think its all done, :bunnydance: submitted the last revision two days ago and they haven't kicked it back :daz: if any of you go through this ordeal I hope you don't get the lovely Patricia :helmet: she's a PITA

f311fr1 12-07-2016 08:23 PM

Right about the time Trump takes office. Coincidence.... I think not.

ALL_IN! 03-22-2017 02:50 PM

I got mine about 1 month ago (Nov/beg submission).

ICDEDPPL 03-22-2017 05:04 PM

In Illinois you don`t have to have registration if your boat does not spend more than 90 days in the state.
I say prove that it does otherwise screw off with your taxes and registration.
I never state registered my documented boat.

1989mach1 03-22-2017 05:46 PM

The renewal is quite fast. It's the initial startup process that takes forever

TorchLK 03-22-2017 05:46 PM

Still waiting on mine to come in! Applied in early Jan. '17 (initial setup)

F-2 Speedy 03-22-2017 06:00 PM

wow....... I'm getting it setup on a boat that has never been documented before. I bet mine is gonna be longer

1989mach1 03-22-2017 09:10 PM

Yes about 5 months is right but just have a copy of the paper work/application on the boat and you can still use it.

1989mach1 03-22-2017 09:13 PM

I went almost the hole summer with out the final document and didn't have any problems. Was even stopped by the cost gard and was good to go

No it shouldn't take longer as long as you have all the right info and know what you need for the boat. Name of boat and port must be on the back of boat and on the paperwork also when you get your doc number it shold be in the cockpit and visible easily. But some put in in the engine bay.

1989mach1 03-22-2017 09:23 PM

Mine is on a plate under bench seat

I do have the paperwork that states that I have applied for USCG documentation, etc.

So until things get finalized I wont have any state of MI registration numbers or anything really (not even sure if I should display state registration numbers at all).

I'm sure this means i'll be getting pulled over quite a bit.....

1989mach1 03-23-2017 06:35 AM

I went the hole first summer like that no stickers no numbers and only got stopped once. Here we don't need Ohio registration numbers at all
