TOP 5 of all time
#41
5 is a Tough#, but here are mine. In no particular order.
Cigarette Gladiator 36'
Magnum 27'
Apache 41'
Cigarette 42' X Staggered
Cigarette Playboy 35'
Luckily I have had the opportunity to ride in 4 out of 5. I have not been on the 42X yet, but from what I have read and people I have talked to, I don't think I will be disappointed. I included my Playboy, because it is Iconic, Unique, Not many left and it is great riding. Just overall cool factor in black with the mahogany flooring. Of course all of the boats listed in this thread are exceptional and anyone would be lucky to own them. And as everyone knows the best offshore boat is the one that runs and doesn't let you down....lol.

Not to digress, but it's interesting that more people have listed the 41' Apache here than anything else (and I agree), yet Apache's sit forever on the market and few Sabers are being built (despite a great price point). Seems like people like Apaches better (big slower wave-crushing boats), but when it comes down to it they buy an Outerlimits or something (fast, light...).
Lake guys are limited to slip size in some places. Most Apaches are hard to finance or insure due to the ages they are hitting so it creates a limited buyers pool.
They also require big power to be fast which rules out another group that don't want to cover those costs.
That being said, they are still legendary offshore machines! I rode in Jester about 10 years ago and while she was very tired, you could see the potential to make her a legendary machine once again!

I think that Apaches and Sutphens are truely iconic, solid brutes that would and still will go through anything and come out in one piece. But in more recent times the 37 and 42 outerlimits should be on anybodies lists. They managed to be strong, solid , confidence inspiring wave crushers just as the Apaches and Sutphens were, but added more speed and an awseome cabin.

Interesting on a site where so many sport wood over the high tech stuff coming out that there's an overwhelming sentiment for the older style hulls/boats.
Personally I don't care about going 130mph over smooth water but do care about going through ROUGH stuff at half that. Long live AJ's Boyne Thunder video.
