Maybe I'm way off base here, but isn't this how it's supposed to work? Interested potential buyer sends seller a deposit to hold the boat for him. Buyer at this point basically considers the boat sold, and entertains no further offers.
At this point either 1) the potential buyer completes the sale, or 2) The potential buyer's circumstances change, looks at the boat and chooses not to buy it, flakes out, etc. Next, the seller either cashes the check and either keeps all of it, part of it, depending on how much of a hassle it's been for them, or if feeling really generous, sends the full amount back. Isn't this how it works? |

Isn't this how it works? In this case the Seller was on vaca when Deposit was sent and was not using a broker. Buyer had his buyer back out while seller was still gone. Seller would have never had a chance to "Miss" a deal cause he was never even home to show and sell it to anyone. So he missed out on nothing. If I was the seller and in this scenario played out, I absolutly return the deposit. I would have missed no showings, I can understand **** happens out side of the buyers control, and I was not jerked around. There are cases it is ok to keep a deposit. To me this was not one of them. |
three types of deposits.
Refundable Non-refundable We didn't agree on anything. |
Ok, i guess I skimmed over that part of the story. lol.

not to derail the thread but I am kind of new to this boating thing so let me ask a question if I may.
so you are telling us a Cigarette is hand built ,but a Fountain is a production boat so I guess my question is if fountain is not hand build like a Cigarette then how are Fountain built? robots?monkeys? donkeys? I mean really did Reggie just tap his heels and poof comes a 47 Fountain? And I guess my other question would be,if fountain is a production built dealer stock boat and Cigarette is custom ordered hand built boat ,what does that make a dealer stock Cigarette? would that be a custom ordered hand built production Cigarette???LOL |

I think what is meant by that statement is that ICEDPPL pretty much hand built that boat. There are many build threads on this site documenting what he has done to that boat. There probably is not a nut or bolt that his hands haven't touched on it. Except for the nuts holding that gauge bouncing on the dash in that one video...
no reason to praise Cigarette and take a cheap shot at Fountain or any other boat builder for that matter,,especially since Cigarette has nothing to do for the condition of his boat. and I bet ICEDPPL would do that to any boat he owns, him and I think alike "good is not good enough when you can make it perfect yourself" ,I have owned a lot of boats over the years of all different brands ,and there has not been one that I did not make better. because at the end of the day I dont give a $h!t who built your boat, they built it because its there job,,but I make them perfect because its my passion.period! |

Cheap shots at Fountain are what I live for.
Reggie would appreciate it, as that's all he ever took at other manufactures . |
Wow, there threads in one!
1) Good to see all the offers of help in the Apollo Beach area, sounds like the OP has received some pics and an impartial opinion. 2) We haven't seen any contract, heard much about the conditions of the sale agreement or heard from the other party so most of us (myself included) will side with the OP. That's pretty normal. 3) I love Fountains but will concede Cigarettes are one of the best built offshore boats on the market. Sadly, new ones are way to expensive for my little pockets and on the used market, dollars per foot, they are still dearer than most competitors, even allowing for beaks and platforms. :) RR |

Or just to expensive or inconvenient to own a boat over there? |
Ok, now we have four topics running on this thread......! Lol
Fountain was a terrific boat in every respect but I get bored. I go boating about once a month so it's a waste of money but that's boats. Resale here is awful, import/shipping costs are horrible and it takes 2 years to sell a boat and lose a bundle of money every time. Next boat will be back to simple boating, probably a stock single inboard 25' and a selfish boat just for me to play with occasionally (don't care for freeloaders anymore) and probably cheaper, I'm getting tired of the losses! Back to basic boating the way I did 25 years ago. Sorry OP, major thread fluck. I'll delete this if you want. RR |

RR Any halfway decent marinas over there that you could keep a live aboard boat at that would be reasonable to visit 90 days at a time to keep from having to become a Thai citizen to own property over there? |
No thread hijack here.
Dan has been missing for days. Probably with his new Redneck former Fountain owning friend suckin Pabst 24s discussion how the inch of glass ass worn off the forward keel area of his new boat makes the Beak soo much sleeker and will allow the boat to carry the bow soo much easier with the weight that has been eroded from it.:evilb: |

I witnessed Reggie Jr. doing it in a dealer's booth at a boat show once. Surprised me a bit as the other boat manufacture owners I had been around up to that point were pretty good about praising their competition or would at least not knock them in conversation with John Q. Public. If I was the dealer I would have been pizzed as the competition he was knocking was a line the dealer was also trying to sell at the show!
so with that been said, I would not respect any boat manufacture if he did not talk highly of his boats!because if he does not believe they are the best how the heck would he expect me to believe they are the best. so lets face it,we have the never Trumpers out there and no matter what he does they will talk $h!t about him,so here we also have the NeverReggie group,no matter what the guy has done for the sport, all the trophy's he has won,all the people that worked for him and supported their family's for over 30 years, all the people that own and love his boats,,for what ever reason the NeverReggie group will always find a reason to tell you why his boats are not what we think they are..but I am ok with that and never lost any sleep of what people think of him or his boats. |

was not there so I do not know how that conversation went, but I will tell you this back in 1999/2000 at the Chicago boat show I was at the Sunny booth talking to the owner and asking questions about the 32,Joe handed me a tape (vhs lol high end at the time) and he told me to watch it and I would see how the competition does not come close to them,,so I did not take that as someone knocking the competition I took that as someone been proud of what they built.

I like Fountains. Big fan of the 29 singles, 35's, and 42's. Reggie Jr. wasn't just talking highly of his brand but was also blatantly bad-mouthing the other brand basically calling them a POS. I'm all for promoting and bragging on your brand but there was no need to try and belittle the competition. Just left a bad taste in my mouth about Jr., not the brand.

I went on an epic vacation to Cuba.
No phone service , it was nice . I think the boat was nice for Florida standards. :party-smiley-004: Peeling clear was only on the stripes, the sun pad was ripped, otherwise just the usual salt boat that sits on a lift and can`t really be cleaned well enough and bakes in the sun. Bolts bleeding from the salt etc. The owner had the computers out of the boat for a whipple stage on upgrade.. why? he`s been selling it for months , why would anyone do that for the new owner, sounded fishy, he was selling the house , the boat, I found other parts he was selling of the boat also that didn`t make much sense. ..I just didnt get a good vibe there. And like Tommybanana says I just can`t trade a mint freshwater boat for a Salt water one. I`m way too OCD. http://33outlaw.zenfolio.com/img/s4/...29197295-4.jpg http://33outlaw.zenfolio.com/img/s11...29195556-3.jpg http://33outlaw.zenfolio.com/img/s5/...29186007-4.jpg http://33outlaw.zenfolio.com/img/s1/...29185886-3.jpg |
Also looks like someone is picking it up pending sea trial
|
Smart Man
Way too many nice freshwater boats to even waste your time looking at saltwater boats and hoping you find that one that has been meticously cared for. |
