Anyone near Apollo beach FL.

That would have a chance to look at a Boat for me to see if it`s worth extending my vacation to go see it?
Guy has very little pictures, so that either means it`s a turd or he just doen`t know how to use a cell phone?
Either way, if I change flights and it`s a turd I might end up pushing him in the Ocean so...trying to avoid that :)

Crude Intentions 02-27-2017 10:50 AM

West coast so it's the gulf not an ocean and specifically apollo beach is on the Tampa bay. Just extend your vacation anyway. You can paint my motors with all your painting experience.

ICDEDPPL 02-27-2017 01:19 PM

Right , I knew that . I was just testing you. Maybe I`ll extend it , lets see how much I drink.

luke81 02-27-2017 03:32 PM

I'm not far, I'm in clearwater and I'm over that way sometimes.

Nate5.0 02-27-2017 03:48 PM

Thought you picked up that Fountain.

My buyer fell thru in the 11th hour due to financing. I sent the Fountain guy a deposit while he was on vacation, meanwhile my deal fell thru , (side story) I text him I can`t move forward with the sale of the Fountain but that **** er got back from vacation and cashed my check anyway. He lives in Nebraska the boat is at LOTO and he was on vacation ... says he missed out on selling it to whom??? ... right . Prick is gonna get his one day. Karma is a *****.
I have another buyer, cash , all ready to go but without a boat to replace the Cig. I`m not real exited about selling it .
1st world problems right .

search continues , this one I`m looking at turns out has "peeling clearcoat above the rub rail" not sure what thats all about ..

A couple pics of the boat, a VPN or proxy setup, and a few strategically placed classified ads for that boat with a significantly reduced asking price may help him get in contact with "buyers".... or at least it'll wear out his phone battery and make him rue keeping that deposit.

dcb 02-28-2017 06:18 AM

I am not sure why he would do this - BS, return your deposit!

What a scum bag thing to do...OMG, I really hope he gets some bad **** to come his way, Sorry to hear that brother.

Never seen that Fountain out this way unfortunately.

Knot 4 Me 02-28-2017 06:40 AM

Only a pencil d!ck would cash that check.

Trip Bravo boat?

scarabman 02-28-2017 06:49 AM

Ego (dont meain it in a bad way) and bad taste aside, from a practical perspective, why not just go through with that deal now and then your deposit isnt lost?

ICDEDPPL 02-28-2017 08:25 AM

There were words exchanged that make that impossible plus I wouldn`t want to deal with a guy like that on a purchase . Personally I wouldn`t give him another cent of my money.

dcb 02-28-2017 09:03 AM

Yeah, doesnt sound like someone you could trust - sucks that he basically stole from you. Hopefully it was not a large deposit. I have had deals that did not work out and I always return a deposit. He may have already spent it and figures you will write it off.

rak rua 02-28-2017 09:10 AM

I'd resurrect the deal, apologize profusely for any stuffing around and send him another cheque for the full amount. Then run down to your bank and close the account immediately. Get him excited, p!ss him of and you get the last laugh.

The 47' is probably a nicer boat anyway, good luck.

RR

Wildman_grafix 02-28-2017 01:09 PM

A Cig owner going to buy a Fountain for the rough waters of lake MI?

You do know that 47 is the same length as your 38 and will ride worst right?

bahaboy252 02-28-2017 02:16 PM

I live in Apollo Beach and would be happy to do anything I can to help you out .

And.....how does she look?

Drock78 03-01-2017 01:43 PM

Did you keep the deposit of the guy that was supposed to buy yours? I can see both ways on his end IMO. Only way I would return a deposit is if it didn't pass survey or something along those lines.

cheech 03-01-2017 11:33 PM

That sucks about deposit, but am I alone in thinking why even bother with a deposit in lieu of the crap like guys keeping it?
It's a used boat, one calls the guy, arrange a time to meet to look or arrange to have it inspected by a third party, if it passes muster hook up to it, exchange the funds and roll on.
If he sells it before you get to it oh well, just have to entertain one of the other 1000 on the market.
I'm sure deposits have been sent, boats got sold out from under depositor, and still haven't got their deposit back. I dunno, SMH

tommymonza 03-02-2017 12:31 AM

Buy Baronmarines 40ss. That thing is immaculate and priced right . It needs NOTHING.

And it has not spent years in battery acid saltwater.

Your Crazy buying some old saltwater boat, 1 in a thousand the thing isn't going to have saltwater related problems.

I don't even take deposits. If you want the boat come buy it, if not bye bye. Most people that keep deposits on principle suck IMO.

IGetWet 03-02-2017 07:11 AM

Wait wait, icdedppl, didn't you mention eating a bullet in the same sentence as owning a triple not too long ago?

tommymonza 03-02-2017 10:12 AM

Soo your are going from a Cigarette that was hand built, and you know and have fixed all the problems ,and now is a 10 of a 10 from what I have heard.

To a old saltwater production built boat that is missing an inch off the forward keel from it sitting grinding in the seashells while it's 3rd owner who is a 1st time boat owner sits under his umbrella in his redneck lawn chair on the beach swigging Pabst Blue Ribbon and telling the Ladies he is Reggie Fountain.

I can see the Logic.

not to derail the thread but I am kind of new to this boating thing so let me ask a question if I may.

so you are telling us a Cigarette is hand built ,but a Fountain is a production boat so I guess my question is if fountain is not hand build like a Cigarette then how are Fountain built? robots?monkeys? donkeys? I mean really did Reggie just tap his heels and poof comes a 47 Fountain?

And I guess my other question would be,if fountain is a production built dealer stock boat and Cigarette is custom ordered hand built boat ,what does that make a dealer stock Cigarette? would that be a custom ordered hand built production Cigarette???LOL

As far as the Cig's and some being stock units.....yes they are custom order by the dealer. Cig does not just build them and ship them. They are ordered by spec.

All boats are more or less hand built .

Cigarette is built in limited quantities by what I would believe would be some of the best help in the business.

Fountain was built mass produced by any body that could breath most likely. Cheap help in that area, not often you see cheap help give a crap.

so are the fountains,so were the Bajas,so were the Powerquest etc somebody orders them.if you think they are like Bayliner were they produce 1000 18 footers and distributed them to their dealer ships to sell you are wrong.
have a friend that was one of the biggest Baja dealers in the country for close to 30 years,,every Baja he had in stock was custom ordered to his specs,I myself have bought numerous new boats none were Cigarettes or Fountains and every one I had to pick my engines, colors vinyl, blah blah
so one way ore another they are custom

well I would think they are built in limited quantities because of orders they take in,,I am sure Skipp never turned anybody away that wanted to give him money..lol

Fountain had to have some quality people there dont you think? after all Fountain made everything in house, rub rails, exhaust, farings, windsheilds, paint,,dash panels,,etc

trust me when I tell I dont give a $hit but lets keep it real

I've never taken a deposit either, I'm just saying "if" I'd did then the guy backs out for some dumb reason then I'm keeping his deposit or a portion of it depending on size.

Years ago I worked building big custom epoxy/ juniper Sportfishing boats in the Carolina's. Good help was hard to find.

And it is nasty smelly itchy work Short of working in the upholstery department.

Worked with many a breather. not worth the money they made and costs that resulted from their phukups.

Cigarette survived the turn down. And skip may have took your order ,but you probably didn't get a delivery date for another year or so.

Fountain was growing so fast and had such huge overhead that they had to crank out the boats to feed their advertising and racing budget. It just grew and grew until it was unsustainable.

I agree with the Custom remark.most all boats are special order hence Custom.

Let's just say limited production constructed by the book .

hey I hear what you are saying

all I can tell is a good friend ordered a brand new 39 T/G in 2008 had it in about 5/6 months a little less time than my Powerquest builds took,,they took about 7 months,

a couple of years later the cabin vinyl came apart, than soon after that the cockpit seats in the rear started coming apart,Cigarette fixed it under warranty but they did not take the boat back at the factory ( although when I had issues with my Powerquest they came and picked it up dropped it off as well) , the dealer farmed it out to some small shop and it looked like it .
I also spent some time in the bilge of that 39 as well,,WTF do they not own a shop vac?? really. so not sure I agree with your high end quality people comment
