Yep, these bring back memories. It was right around 2005, when Dan built that boat, that we swiped the check to him to build the parts for Sunsation for building the F4 plug.

The additional steps were added to the F4 bottom after Wayne decided to lengthen the boat. He reduced the size of the PP steps and added some smaller steps that were just under an inch each.

Still amazes me people would ruin such a great boat with a cartoon character and silly lettering to go with it!
I'm not a painter and just curious but what would it cost to "fix" this boat and totally remove the cartoon character? |

F4 seems to be a faster hull but it chine walked a little at top speed, the Powerplay was rock solid but keep in mind it was almost 20 mph slower (400 less HP) than the Powerplay I drove. The PP has an old school feel to it, everything was square, look like the gauges were installed with a hole saw in a flat dash. The F4 was something out of Star Trek by comparison with a ton of CNC parts.

The 2 steps that do anything are the same as the Powerplay. The other bow steps really do nothing at speed (they are not even in the water!).
I rode in the factory F4 boat and was aboard when they shot the cover for the brochure. At speed it would rock back and forth noticeably. I did 1/2 that poker run on a 43 NT which rode like a Cadillac and then came back on the F4. The chine walk was very noticeable on the F4 but that was the factory boat and might have been tweaked more than others. As I remember it ran about 104 when new whereas the other boats were 99-100. |
It would be great if the 38 PP was to come back for Dan and his old crew to build them. Dan may not have been the best business man but he could build one he!! of a boat and was a perfectionist. Even though he knew the hull and deck he built for Wayne was going to get butchered, the hull and deck were laid up like any other of the boats he built. No shortcuts taken. I remember holding one of the chunks of the side of the hull you see missing in the pics above. Foam-cored perfection. Built like a brick sh!thouse.
