Whatever happened with the Goodwin Skaters

Haven't heard anything about these in along time. Any news?

skater40 05-17-2017 08:50 PM

Not good -they don't want to talk about it .

sre 05-17-2017 09:06 PM

Interesting.

running at Tickfaw last week

akaboatman 05-17-2017 10:13 PM

I thought it sold? I might be wrong?

Pete B 05-18-2017 06:03 AM

yes it sold but still has Goodwins in it. There is another 388 that was just finishing up at Skater that has them as well.

PigNaPoke 05-18-2017 06:10 AM

Think there is also an outerlimits running a set... crickets. Hasn't been any mention.

Nate5.0 05-18-2017 06:32 AM

I know Bill's sold but as was said it still has the Goodwins in it and it has been used rather often by the new owner. I would say it is still a success.

302Sport 05-18-2017 08:04 AM

I have heard horror stories too. Have also heard stories about loaner engines being ran around the country because the engines in the boats were blowing up and the company didn't want to get a bad rep or any of that info getting out in general.

302Sport 05-18-2017 08:08 AM

Actually now that I'm thinking about it, I think it was Pure Platinum at last years Tickfaw that had to run on borrowed power. I could be wrong though...

Unlimited jd 05-18-2017 08:23 AM

Never heard that. Pretty sure bill put almost 200 hours on them. They had some tuning issues with mefi initially, switched everything out, and played around with water pressure.

Nate5.0 05-18-2017 08:51 AM

Never heard of that but know this year alone it has ran Key west as well as tickfaw without issue at all.

Still has the goodwins in it.

precisiondetails 05-18-2017 09:37 AM

Bad ass motors. I just think the thread starter meant- there was so much hype early, and then there hasn't been really anything written about them since.

Yes no bashing was intended just haven't heard much news.

Cash Bar 05-18-2017 10:43 AM

Two more Skaters nearing completion with Goodwins.

One of the boats was slowed during the build by the overall custom job, not by the motors per se.

I find this post very interesting and I wish you'd elaborate.......

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't you own Predator 2? Arguably one of the baddest Skaters around.....

hustlerguy 05-18-2017 11:48 AM

The 44 outerlimits that had Goodwin motors now has 1 season going on #2 of trouble free boating with new mercury power.

OL40SVX 05-18-2017 03:36 PM

Yes we re-rigged the Outerlimits with new Mercury 1100's and it has been turn key overtime it has hit the water.

Unlimited jd 05-18-2017 03:52 PM

How long were the goodwins in it? Any details as why the switch?

Nate5.0 05-18-2017 04:37 PM

Those Goodwins where different from the ones in Pure Platinum correct?

Tborisch 05-18-2017 05:51 PM

Want to go fast, Buy Sterling. :party-smiley-004:

Want to float around with your engine hatches open and twice as lite in the wallet.... well, you know.

cbrad350 05-18-2017 06:16 PM

Lol

Unlimited jd 05-18-2017 06:32 PM

Not for nothing but it was a pair of sterlings that broke and kept xXx from running against Reggie wasn't it? Or so the story goes lol. Anything any brand can have problems

And it was also sterlings that pushed the Fountain to the record that day.

So is he having another Skater built?

cbrad350 05-18-2017 09:52 PM

Lots of conjecture and flat out wrong information in this thread. Actually sorta humorous.

That was racecrafters iirc.

for us who don,t know what [blowing up]means can you explain, are they exploding like a bomb?blowing up is a generalized statement.what exactly is happening to the engines?burnt pistons, spinning bearings, blowing head gaskets.it would be nice to hear facts instead of rumor.

302Sport 05-19-2017 06:26 AM

Maybe blowing up is the wrong word, I'll be more political, make my statement general and change it to "having tons of issues."

And it was Mercury that shattered the record in the OL.

now we are heading in the right direction.it would be nice if someone would post what issues these engines are having.i have my own idea of what may be happening but i have no facts,i hope someone ,maybe the owner of these engines will step up with facts.

Cash Bar 05-19-2017 10:42 AM

To my knowledge only two sets have been out there for an extended period. One has been swapped for Merc and one seems to be at plenty of events so it's not exactly a large sample size.

Tborisch 05-19-2017 10:51 AM

Yup, the set that got swapped for mercs ran about as long as a fat kid in lead shoes... lets just say the owner wasn't very excited about that deal....

Unlimited jd 05-19-2017 11:42 AM

Lmao right wrong or whatever that's funfny sh!t

Actually, if memory serves those engines in the Outerlimits were one-offs built by an outfit called RaceCrafters.

I remember them being quite a bit different then the ones in P.P if I recall correct.

While I've interviewed Todd Goodwin a few times I really don't know much about the engines in the Pure Platinum Skater series beyond this, https://speedonthewater.com/new-boat...s-in-the-works, and this is a pretty old story (April 2016) that came out of the first project. I wrote an article on the RaceCrafter engines for Powerboat magazine's Power & Propulsion column, but for the life of me I cannot remember anything about them (other than that they reportedly made massive power). So I couldn't draw any sort of accurate fact-based comparison.

SB 05-19-2017 01:03 PM

Here's the big massive Kilo Run thread and the page it will land you on will mention the RaceCrafter deal:

Just to be clear ... the RaceCrafter engines were in the OL that didn't run during the kilo runs hosted by Fountain—the one where Fountain claimed the record. Don't want anyone to be confused.
