bajadave, are those Quikdraws? :D
|
Here's a fuzzy shot of a replica INXS Apache. I took this photo the day I bought mine, this is the model builders personal RC boat. He also builds Cats, you can see an uncompleted one in the upper left:
|
No pic on that last one, Show us a pic of that apache boiling water!!! How did you do the thru hull, i would like to do that on the scarab (along with a deep water drive, trim tabs, paint the trim....

HyperBaja,
Yeah, I wish those were quickdraw's, but at $900 a piece, for a quickdraw without clutch... not yet... I wish I had an action picture, but I don't have one yet. I've only had the boat in the water a few times and I am still trying to get it dialed in. :) |

I didn't do the thru-hull, the boat maker had it already done when I bought it. I'll scan a picture of what I started with:
|
My boat-maker has not advertised in awhile.. he used to go by "Capricorn Boats". He now goes by "Radio Controlled Sports and Hobbies", Woodbridge, Ontario Canada, 905-850-9389. (Toronto)
|
Oh yeah.. he also makes the replica #6 drives, I think he gets $125 a piece for those, cable type drive. He makes the liquid cooled parts, stocks big bore carbs and all the goodies, pretty much for all engine makes.
|
Bajadave, can I ask how much??
Is that exhaust enough for those motor's?? Oh yea, and how FAST? |
Somewhere between 2-3K, I've lost track. I did not buy it turn key. I bought the hull rigged with the exhaust, outdrives and props, and I bought everything else to complete it seperately. And then I hid all the receipts from my wife. ;)
The exhaust seems to be adequate. It should be able to do about 35mph. I don't quite have the motors broke in yet, and I'm still jetting and tuning. I need to take a day off from work and put some hours on it. I think I'll need to upgrade to some big bore carbs and a set of 3 blade props to get some real speed out of it. |
The #6 model drive that I posted is made by MHZ-Modelbau of Germany . If you click on the "Produkte" tab, it will show you the good stuff. Drives are listed under "Antriebe" and are very, very impressive - miniature Pulse Drives, #6 drives, TriMax/Arnesons, jet drives, and even one that looks like a single-prop version of a BlackHawk!
I don't know where BajaDave got his cable-drive #6's, but they look even more realistic from above water, and may be more durable (simpler). Good sites are: RumRunners for fast electric (low-aggravation) stuff. Precision in Perfection for awesome large-scale cats, Apaches, Super Hawaii's, and Arneson drives. Aeromarine Laminates for US-style offshore boats and hardware. Graupner for BatBoats, Phantoms, SuperHawaiis and others, all imported by Hobby-Lobby . (Both sites are kind of hard to find the boat stuff in - be persistent, and check "New Items" in the Graupner site.) Jim's R/C Boating page has tons of links - you can get lost for hours there. Remember - Christmas is coming, and you'll need soemthing to do while it's cold out....:D |
How about an 84" Apache that can handle triple 35cc's??? :D :D :D Muwahahahaaa
|
sorry forgot to mention thats from www.piracing.com :D
|
I've got to get a new job !!! I can't even afford the coolest "toy" boats !
That 84" Apache is BAD !! |

Another great source for info on big scale offshore R/C boats is Chris Fine at Fine Design R/C . Very helpful, and willing to spend a little time on the phone discussing what you want to do.
