R/C Boat, A must have!
1 Attachment(s)
If you don't have an R/C boat yet, buy one. I have been working on a 46" Enforcer from warehouse hobbies to never have time to finish it. So last week I bought one finished, ready to run. It is a blast, I have a small lake across from my house, and now every chance I get I'm running across the street to use it. It has also motivated me to finish my other one so I can have races. I'm making allot of new friends in my development also, unfortunately they are all between the ages of 8-14(no vile comments please). My only reget is not buying it ready in the first place, I would have been running it every weekend on my boat, a toy for my toy. This is from the website, my new one is all yellow, and my project is custom painted with flames. Midnight
46"oal , 30cc engine, 75mm prop(direct drive w/clutch), pull start, futaba FM radio www.warehousehobbies.com |
I have a Prather and your so right, what a blast.
It looks like an offshore boat running in 30 footers at scale. Jumping back and forth across the wake of the boat is very cool. WHEN you stuff it and have the the right crew, we can recover, pull the plug, drain all water, oil, and have it running again in less than 10 minutes every time. The only problem is you can only sink it 5-6 time a day before the miosture build in the radio controls and it starts shorting. Nothing a night on the mantle dosnt fix. One strong word of advise, there are more upgrades for these little motors than are for the Merc HP500. Dont do it! Its very tempting when you see all the custom exhausts, carbs, ect. but they are far too finiky to be fun. :D |
I have the following:
18 wooden dumas short stuff 45" scarab with 30 cc 26" electric gp cat twin motor 12 cell .40 nitro air boat i love the look on the "real" scarab owners faces as i shoot up a 8 foot high roostertail from the scarab! |

Been there , done that,
Yeah , cool! My son had a 42" Fountain but it was electric. Well, not being able to leave any thing alone... it got a higher speed motor and four  battery packs (2 in series and 2 in parallel). Now it even sat in the water like a Fountain. After a little prop swapping it was a real terror. The first minute or two after a charge I could chase some jetskis:D :D Only trouble you only got maybe 5 minutes to a charge , and it took another 45 minutes or so to charge all four packs even with two chargers:( On the up side , as the batteries ran down you could usually get it back home like any Fountain running on 1 engine:D |

Chad,
A friend of mine just got an Enforcer. I hope to get a call when he gets a chance to give it a maiden voyage yet this fall. I'll see then if I get the bug to get one myself. I'm not sure if I'd use one much. They're a little big to take out on the boat and not be in the way while you're running or overnighting. And, I know another person who has one and says you want to have a PWC or some way to go get them in the lake if you have to. got any thoughts on those points? I'd like to have one, but would I really get use out of it? Mark |
"Where's the Beak?" LOL :D :D (Really old Wendy's commercial.)
|
I have 2 Enforcer's, a Sport and a Team. Bought them both used on eBay (yea, I'm addicted!). They really are great fun to run, especially against each other. I like to find a vacant cove and let 'em rip. Watching these things launch off a roller is a sight to behold. It's amazing the number of curious people that come over to watch.
Tantrum is right- it's easy to put a wad of money into mods. I prefer to run the stock Homelites (water cooled / clutch) and not worry about lunching a motor. I considered putting a Zenoah/Hanson in, but why?? They're plenty of fun with Homies!:) 32 Fever- I use a small plastic kayak as a recovery vessel. It fits in the cabin (with the door closed) while underway, and makes a great platform for fishing/ exploring. I used to use a cheap inflatable, but put a huge gash in the hull one day when pulling the R/C boat aboard (those rudders are sharp!)  |

mini big block for those boats
|
I built one last year with a pro mod 30cc weedwacker motor, ran like 45 -50 mph. Surface drive, trim tabs, custom paint and direct drive. noisy as hell at 13,000 rpm  Now "290PQ" on the board owns it..
Travis |
my buddy Johhny has one that he made. He is a model maker at our work. He fabricated a liquid cooled head and even has thru hull exhaust with the water exiting through the exhaust!!!
It's cool !! pick your hobby I say. Wife says i have tooooo many!! |
I have a 39" scale model of a cig. made by Dumas boats back in the early 80's. My bride gave it to me as gift, took more than 5 months to rig. Since has been re-rigged twice due to unintentional sinking. Current K/B motor spins up 2.2 hp at 23000 rpm with a tuned pipe, pressurized fuel delivery, and exhaust throttle. Of course it is water cooled, and the pick up is behined the prop for better circulation. Running a Futaba 4 channel radio, steering, throttle, and port/stbd trim tabs. Thinking of going back to a carb. becouse the exhaust throttle makes a damn mess of the bilge  it works good but the fuel in the bilge makes it hard to start. Very fast and a bunch of fun!!:D

no but is just over 5 feet sa wone go on ebay last week for low 400 just boat no motor or electronics.

www.rcboatmodeler.com (magazine)
www.whobbies.com www.aeromarinerc.com (has drambuie,"rock-it",apache etc.) www.bonzisports.com (has an 84" yes 84" apache) I would check out the magazine, it has articles for R/C boats just like the others have articles for our boats. |

Of course, if you're gonna go big, you'll need one (or more) of these little jewels:
|
I don't remember who makes it, but there's one gas engine out there that has an electric "get home" motor as a back-up in case you run out of fuel. That's what you need insted of swimming of paddling after it.
|
I saw a 84" Cigarette on Ebay last year. It was set up for twin Homelites and twin jet drives.
the boat was unfinished and the price was way up there but it as pretty cool. Someone mentioned an Apache (48") in an earlier thread. I found a shop in an add in R/C modeler, I think the place was in Florida and they had allot of hop up stuff for the Homelites. I don't remember the name though |
Iggy - you might be thinking of the Traxxas Nitro Vee, I know that boat has the backup electric motor. That boat's a nitro engine though, not a homie. I've got a couple 1/8 scale nitro cars, and they are a ton of fun, but I would go with the homie in a boat.
The nitro costs around 20-25 a gallon, and the engines are kind of finicky. For those of you who have "Weedwacker" boats, does anyone run them in salt? That's all I have around me, and I wasn't sure how the boats handled it. |
If you like electric boats try www.rumrunnerracing.com
|
Holy crap batman! Now I know for sure what I'm going to ask Santa for this year!
|
I run mine in salt all the time. I just shoot in down withe a little WD-40 and wipe it off. Mine is about 5 years old and Ive only replaced the servos in the boat once. Also put a few drops of oil in the cylinder before puting it away. It usually stuffs several time everytime it goes out.
If I had known this thread was going to take off like it did I would have dug through my files last night. There is one called the Patriot, i think its made by Blew By You R/C it has some really nice lines. That will be my next project boat if do another. |
mini #6 drive
Gotta love those little conley v-8s i've been drooling over those since the early 90's. they also have the viper v-10 now. C-spray do you have any info on those mini #6's I remember them being advertised in boat modeler some years back any info on them would be great (if there still making them). I'd like to pick up a pair.
Thanks Ken |
Topdjcom, that mini big block is awsome!! Is it really for these boats??
CSPRAY, that #6 is awsome also!! How much for a boat and either a single Mini Big block and a #6 or for onr with twins?? |
from the conley site

Supercharger: $1295.00 Stroked crankshaft: $469.95 Radiator (standard): $179.95 Sprint Exhaust: $400.00 Cast Aluminum exhaust manfolds: $249.95 "23 T,' radiator (electric fans included): $375.00 Test Stand Complete self contained with Stainless Steel Exhaust: $1695.00 (less engine) and last time I saw them advertised the mini #6's were I think around $250-300 ea. Anyone interested in putting a Badd-Azz R\C together I'd be glad to build it for em:D :D :D |
|
The conley seems quite expensive, is it mostly for show? Are the motor's that most people run a little cheaper??
How does the conley hold up in a R/C Boat? |
Well I can see this is going to get expensive. I am already going to buy the tuned pipe. What's the story on the 6 drive. Mine has a surface drive on it now. My project boat is going to be the mod. I am porting the cylinder right now. I Made cylinder shims to raise the exhaust port, a case stuffer, and made and a cylinder stuffer for the cumbustion chamber to raise the compression. Everyone knows you need compression to make a 2-stroke go! I bought race fuel on sunday and mixed it with some bean oil I had laying around, I have been running that rascal in the garage day and night tunning on it. My garage has that perfume smell of the old go cart racing days now, I love it. Midnight:cool:
The unit I just bought is 46" 's , has a 30cc air cooled with surface drive and controller. I bought it as a demo from a distrubter in my nieborhood for $650. He said he knocked of $100, plus the fifty shipping. He included some spare stuff also. To zing it needs a $125 pipe, a big bore carb, and liquid cooled cylinder, a total of about $300. |

I've got one in my closet that's been sitting there for years. It's all f'glass 36" to 40" or something like that with a weedwacker engine, radios, and a really cool outdrive that looks like an old Merc SSM drive. It needs a driveshaft to go from the engine to the drive.
I got it ina trade for a bunch of other stuff. It was for sale back then (6 or 7 years) for $700.00. If anybody's interested I'd make them a deal. Drop me an email or respond here and I'll get some pics of it. [email protected] |
There is a kid in my neiborhood that wants one bad. Let me know what you want, and a pic if you have one. [email protected] Midnight
