Bye bye Merc 700
Mercury is ending production of the 700SCi as of 12-31. No more orders accepted after 11-17. Replacement is the 860.

The more they can move current motors to their proprietary platform the more money they can make on parts.
To many aftermarket parts for the BBC. |
There will always be after market BBC in boats, it doesn't need to be black, blue or orange to make power and be reliable......but the 700 package stood the test of time well.

You can build a 700 for half of what Merc wants for one anyway. Who cares?

What's pricing like for the 860? And will they sell just the engine without the #6? I'm guessing the answer to that is no.

Merc getting rid of the I/O market one day at a time.

Motor was a dinosaur that nobody was buying anyway. The cat builders will use the 860 as the base offering, the bigger V bottoms will do the same. The only boats left out would be like a 39 Cig or OL 41 that wanted 1400 HP vs. going to a pair of 565's (too small). A "entry level" offering from Cig/OL/Fountain will use the 540/565. Boats like the 33/37 AT's were pretty much using the 525-565 power anyway (AT built 3 700 boats). The extra money really hurts the entry level price point.

If there is a want for something in the 700 range, I’m shure they could dumb down the 860s to that level
