Fuel tank is finally in for good and floor is in too.

Ill make an alum plate for over the new location for fuel fill hose.

The boat now carries 92 gls compared to the 67 when I bought it and fuel fill is where it should be.
Rear floor panels remove to give access to fuel lines to tank etc.

Overall, so far, it’s one of those rare projects that’s coming together as planned.

I want to finish the boat so I can build a pair of my powerheads to replace the sissy p.heads on it now.

Almost everything is mocked up and I am very happy w/it so far.

Hydraulics for steering is mocked and I’m OK w/it.
So far.

Ive decided to do the mechanicals this season so I can get it wet then tear it back down this fall and add the pad and make it pretty.
I need a fix of it flying the bow w/both motors WFO and me smilin.

I made the plate for over the cut out for the new/improved fuel fill and figured out how to make existing gauge openings work (from a single IO to twin OBs) which I didn’t think I could do.
It ain’t right but I will correct it this fall.

Im OK w/where I’m at for now.

This boat reminded me that when, the stereo is their priority, walk away.
They had 1 1/2” steel screws holding the stereo in the dash! One broke off in the dash.
Some people should NEVER be able to touch a boat!

Oh, and, I just got in trouble for working on this project instead of building the bosses pool and deck 😉

Headway....

Just started rigging and really like how it’s coming together.

Oil tanks and fuel systems are in and plumbed.

Oil tanks are 3 gls ea, w/remote fills so no opening seats and spilling oil.
That should get me 8 or so tanks of fuel before needing oil.

I built electric primers for the fuel system.

I’ll have momentary switches at the helm to run electric pumps to prime the carburetors.
This eliminates having to squeeze the primer bulb that everybody hated doing.
Takes about 3 to 5 seconds to prime all six carburetors of each motor.
I installed the standard primer bulb in line to use for its check valves to control fuel direction and also as back up in case I lose a pump I can still start cold motors.
Did this on my last Sonic and loved it.

This is how two strokes should’ve been rigged from the dealer 40 years ago and we wouldn’t have four stroke outboard’s.

Fired the port motor in the shop today and forgot it was full of seafoam, eating carbon.

Instantly filled the shop with smoke and set off the smoke alarm which then got me a phone call from simply safe alarm company :-)

It did start instantly and sounded healthy, for the 5 seconds I let it run.

Plan to pull it from the barn tomorrow and run both motors on the hose.

Being lousy wrenching myself, I appreciate and admire how you photo document and describe how you go about things, but also point out the practical benefits of each thing you do Gary. The folks on the Screamandfly forum must really like this rigging for two strokes. Sure look forward to your sea trials. 👍
