Agreed and great point about the third person. Another negative is when under way, remembering that opening is there and not stepping into it. I had a cuddly that way. I have a solution though which is to have a filler pc for it, while under way.

I vote cabin entry..... I had a similar gap when I redid my fuel tank, but it was behind a structural bulkhead so I left it there (it’s good storage for shoes). Every time I hit my head going in and out of the cabin, I curse myself for not making use of it for entry. The only down side I can think of in giving up the flat cockpit floor would be losing the ability to safely/comfortably put a third person in between the bolsters while running. |

Thats the good. The bad is its junk due to corrosion. Appears stainless bolster mount screws were too long and made contact w/tank causing galvanic corrosion. So far the stringers still look good. I have decided to make the bilge all fuel tank and should end up with 100 gls. Will go from cabin bulkhead to pad in bilge for bilge pump. The more I dig the more I am reminded as to my preference of re-rigging what I own. I am fearless in my boats in rough water when I have rigged them. In looking at the pump for the trim tabs I found massive corrosion on its mounting frame and solenoids, all hidden by its plastic housing. Little boats in big water MUST have good tabs. I lost a tab on my first 24' Sonic coming home through five footers in Lake Erie. That boat wouldnt stay on plane bellow 30 w/o tabs. That boat cant run 30 in 5's which meant the remainder of trip was made off plane, |

Yep Something special to pull up to dock in one you built/rigged yourself. I have a very defined vision of the finished project and once I get there, I'm good.

After much time in the bilge w/a tape measure and doing math, I’m a day away from having a 95 gl tank built. Up from the OEM 67. The stringers are only 24 1/2” apart so that’s width limit and I’m going from cabin bulkhead to about 12” forward of transom. About all I can get and still have from for bilge pump. While I’m filling I/o cut out I’m also repairing notch in sun lounge cross bar that a previous owner notched. It dropped a 1/2” and that’s w/o two fat/drunk people sitting on it! Decided to try an experiment and see if my shop vac would pull any water out of the flotation foam and luckily got nine. Yay. Being the skin flint that I am, I’ve decided to build my own bracket out of glass. Ordered two new jack plates today. |
