Who would'a thunk that that ugly ass engine cowling sticking up dragging in the wind would need to be re-designed? LOL
Sounds like they are pretty confident it's gonna break the record and is already running over 180.

It would be interesting to see Rio Roses that's up for sale, run that power to see how far the "new" design advanced the Fountain rebirth..and the OL kilo for that matter.
Anybody know what the weight savings were chopping down the hull like they did, only to have to put that large of fiberglass cowling back on top .. and then reinforce it.... not likely to ever see another boat hacked like that even if there was a new wave of Offshore racers as even Nigel Hook left that design on the Green Scarab.
Just the same - nice to see them progressing on the record as long as everyone goes home safe each night.

Peeps in NC say that when Brian was dialing in the OL boat for the record attempt he hit a wall around 175 MPH. Nothing they tried on the bottom would free up the boat to go faster. The OL hull was just stuck to the water at that speed. Brain finally had the deck modified and doing that gave the OL more lift and the extra lift freed up the hull to get to 180+ and set the record.
The old Fountain Kilo boat that set the record back in 2004 was said to have too much bow lift. When making the new kilo boat they really cut down the profile hoping to make it more aerodynamic and take some of that excess lift out. I'm told that after doing that the new Fountain design ran into the same problem as Brian and OL - the bow had no lift and the boat was just glued to the water. Hopefully the modifications will help free it up.
