Shanghied Again, Pretty bold statement, especially againist a Velocity or Fountain that weigh less. How fast are you running and with what motor? and Prop?

Shanghied- I would expect if this was such a great boat that we would be seeing it in F1 class. Donzi has never really been a player....until this year with their F2 boat. The weight of you boat seems high for a 26. My 29 Lavey is 4,800. What motor are you running? What is the deadrise on that boat?

A stock 502 Fountain and Velocity will take me in calm water, The Velocity with stock power runs 5mph faster then any boat, But the pad makes in the hard water, Fountain is a good boat my buddy owns one fast yes! anything better then 2ft and she becomes a handful, Only 24ft running room,light and narrow. I take them him every time in the Ocean. Sarasota Poker Run (April) the only small boats in the run my 26ZX a 26Sonic 27 Fountain a 29 Fountain a 26 Velocity and a 28 Velocity. 4ft waves. The Sonic could not take the beating he could only run about 35, The fountain 27 same problem, The 26 Velocity I dont think made it to the next inlet, The 28 Velocity ran with me, The 29 Fountain took me. The same thing in NY. The sonic needs big power to run near 70. The fontain 27 kept up and passed me until we started getting the waves from the other boats then I passed them. I run with bigger boats the weight is what makes the boat good in rough water.

1997 Damn Donzi A class 27ft ZX World Champion 97 She was a good boat until she flipped in Key West loosing the driver, Donzi lost interest in racing! John Wooley then took the boat from Donzi won the championship in 98. The boat was badly damaged from the roll over and never recovered.

My 2001 26ZX left the factoru weighing 5095 pounds, fill it with gas and water and you are around 6700 pounds, I have the truck scales to prove it and got an upgraded trailer "after the fact" because it came on an under rated loadmaster, safety issue.
Donzi advertises 5000 for some reason.
They handle the rough well but are not real fast, 64GPS is average for a 502/496Mag HO etc.

My Sonic was heavier than suspected too. 26' Sonic, 100 gallons of fuel +/-, gear, cover, trailer was 7280#!!!! I have the tickets from the truck scale too. (That was without that damn 800# box anchor too!! )

I can run just fine in 2s, 3s, 4s, and 4s with the occasional 5. The only time I headed in was consistant 5s with the occaisional 6 for the hell of it. This is all in driver ability and comfort. I was out with my sister and brother in law, and all necks were starting to hurt. I know Mark from So Md. has been out in bigger water with his 26' Sonic.

Fever Mike, The 29 Fountain with 350s or a 500 is a great running boat, I was on my buddies. Its the big block boats in the 29s that are scary! There fast but they are scary. the 29 is about a 72mph boat with a 500EFI and runs sweet, Any boat under 30ft with twin engine Big blocks are a handful. I like the 26ZX with a single engine over the 28ZX with the twin 350s, To much weight in the rear, The same goes for the Fountains, They run better with the single, Damn Donz1 won in 1998 SBI Championship, The boat flipped in Key West as an A boat she didn't chine walk until the flip over and busted out the stringers. She actually won in 1998 when the boat was repaired. The team with Tim V, ran the boat that year and new how to run Damn Donzi. When John W took over he couldn't control the boat and threw out every driver, The boat should have been retired that year! Please don't take me the wrong way. I run my boats hard, I was going to buy a 28 Sonic Great rough water boat but the speed was not there. My Wife loves the cabin. The fit and finish and walk around are good to. Fountain is a good looking boat but the 27 is not a good rough water boat, Great in the bay and a look that is of its own I love the fit and finish on all Fountains. I wanted the red white and blue 27 that my friend has.
Ask Randy from Typhoon Racing when we were coming back from the SeaSide Park race who was behind him runnig 60mph in 5ft waves 20 miles back to Point Pleasant inlet. 5 sweep boats started back with throttles pushed down and 1/2 mile in to it 3 backed down 1 stayed with me for 2 miles when he lost complete control and almost stuffed. I didn't have one crack or mark on my gelcoat;
I buy a boat not for its name but the test results the warranty and the beating she can take and after the 22ZX that I owned for 3 years that was supercharged 80 mile an hour Trophy winner NJPPC radar shoot out and Poker Run nightmare stayed together without a crack, Donzi won my vote!

If speed and a boat that was not a stand up boat was my goal, I would have bought a Kryptonite. Now there is one fast single engine 27ft boat! That would kick my A## in the Ocean,bay or lake, wih a 496 she runs in the 70s

a friend just traded in a formula 271 with twin 350 mags, with 26pitch ran 68mph . i drove the boat very heavy feelling ,with tabs down drives down was hell getting on plane even going slow the nose would ride up couldnot see over it . the props would cavitate trying to get on plane . i would say it took aleast 60 seconds to drop the nose . the frist time i drove it i thought the drive were stuck in up pisition. when my buddy frist bought it i thought he didnot know how to trim and tabb it . its just the boat. the rest of it was nice very good inteior. think about resale also.

what about warlock ,seen a lot of them in the races?
a friend has a 96 scarab 29 with 415 hp 61 mph only ,no step.

another friend had a fountain 29 with 2 454 pro charged ran 93 mph.
i think the donzi is a heavy boat
