Default 24 Foot ski boat sinks at Boynton Inlet today - 15 people aboard

I was at the marina today and hear about a boat sinking in Boynton inlet:
-15 people on a Mastercraft
-15 people on a Mastercraft that went outside (into the ocean)
-4 kids on board
-Everybody was rescued and safe

Natural selection on this one fellas. I get grumpy when there are 6 people on my boat. This thing was packed like a sardine can.

Let the flaming begin!

I hope they have to pay for the rescue!

It wouldn’t bother me if their insurance has a “dumbass” cause and denies coverage.

Sure hope the tower speakers didn't get wet!

Boynton inlet is nasty, it is actually marked as a drainage diverter or something, helps flush the intracoastal. There is a fixed bridge so no big boats head out there.

Note in the video how smooth things look, yet look how fast the water is moving.

Remember the 34’ Silverton in NY w/25 people out watching the fire works?

Killed 13 of them???

Last I heard they were going after the captain which they should do.

Ive been for mandatory licensing for the last 20 yrs.

An idiot takes 15 people on a Mastercraft.
An idiot takes a Mastercraft into the Atlantic.

Not sure what to call a captain that puts 15 people in his Mastercraft and takes them to the Atlantic????

Should have been Darwined. Also at some point as a passenger you should think to yourself that maybe it's not a good idea, the fact you're bringing kids out there amplifies it.

Agreed.

Being kids as passengers, how many had the experience to know better etc, etc??

The bumb ass pool is bottomless.

Hear the story yrs back of the new step boom vee owner showing off at a poker run??
Lake St Clair maybe.

Owner and buddy preparing to leave dock for a blast when two people on dock asked for a ride.
The 4 head out and owner does fly byes w/one buzzing the breakwall.
He comes in hot (new, faster boat....),cranks it hard over to avoid breakwall and being stepped........, the hull aerates and spins.

Ejects two passengers from rear seats.
Killed them both.
They didn’t even know their names!

Should they have known better??
Apparently so.

We seem to operate in a hobby that if your boat is bigger/faster, you know better and are more experienced.

^^ Sorry, two people in a boat doesn't equate to 15 including kids in a tiny boat, how is it even possible to fit that many?

You suggested that even though they were kids, they should have known better.
My example of the two was that they were adults and still didn’t know better.

As to how to fit 15 kids in a small boat....., easy.
4 on front seat, 4 on rear seat, 2 on motor cover, (there’s 10) 2 on stb gunnel (shorter due to drivers seat) and 3 on port.

Go to any sand bar in Fla on a sunny Saturday.
Youll see 10 in a 17’ Whaler.

If theyre kids, they will pile in until it sinks or capt says stop.
Ive watched it happen.
