The coolant overflow tank is the highest part of the cooling system. IF there is an air pocket, it will work it’s way up to there pretty quick at higher RPMs.
The only other way to fill would be to pull a vacuum like some cars require, and that would be a bad idea for the heat exchanger.

The vacuum method is how I refill most closed cooling engines. I've always wondered if there is any damage to the cooling hoses, because some of them really suck down flat. But I had never worried about the heat exchanger. Why is pulling a vacuum bad for them?
