Default Apache 22 setup!

Hi!!

I just bought an Apache 22 -1988 with 225hp Johnson outboard. Boat has long bracket with swim tab and i have now 4" hydraulic jackplate in garage to put on it. My guestion is that is it going to be too long set back with 4" jackplate? Outboard is now guite low and there is also one holes to lift it up but for best results i am willing to put jackplate on it. Old owner has drive 58mph with 14.25*19 (Viper) propeller and i have 14*26 propeller waiting to get tested when summer is coming..

Now way you'll be able spin a 26" prop if you are even close to correct rpms with the 19"

ScreamandFLy.com is the best outboard forum for that boat. Lots of SOB (single outboard) info and knowledge over there. Good luck!

Our 24CC is based off that hull as we bought the mold way back when Apache went away. Our set back is 24" and some customers use a hyd jack plate either for performance or shallow water. Typically we run a 21" Mercury Tempest for good all around performance.
Hope this helps!

Thank you all for answers.
Previous owner couldn't tell if rpm's was on point because cauge didn't work. Info was that it was running 58mph like solid train. I have also little doubts about 26 prop and will get something between those 19-26 to try. Ofcourse hydraulic jack plate will help to get some props work but too much is too much =)
Cant post pics because less than 10 messges.....

Much is going to ride on how healthy (or sick) your motor is. If it were healthy and set up for just for top end, I'd guess mid 60's is about right. I'd also guess it's down a few ponies from new too.

I did test run last week and it was 58mph very solid ride. Little problems with power trim so during winter need to check it up that also. =) When the spring comes will do more test with different propellers. I think that mid 60īs very possible with that old Johnson....

You might want to read through this thread:

The Re-Birth of an Apache Scout

What you'll find is an exhaustive first hand description of how one of our members (J-Bones) took a boat just like yours from a basket case to what has to be the nicest 22 Apache Scout on the planet. (Maybe even the nicest 22' SOB on the planet!)
