I've voted 'yes' but there's a caveat on my vote....... outboard power!
for me, if I was spending a little over 100k on a 25 footer, I'd be a bit price sensitive and that would include ongoing service/maintenance. Inboards offer no advantage to my boating and are more expensive to own long term, especially as I run in salt water.
Good topic Mr Jeff.

I get it on OB for salt water use... surprised on 25 being small and 28-30 being better
30 needs twin and once in that range there is a little more offer on market than 25 right now, at least in my eyes...
love inboards but times have changed! Guess a single 400 OB or 450 would be the key!

I think it will be VERY interesting to see a company like Lavey build a 27-28' single outboard 450 with tons of room. Probably still run 60-70mph & be an amazing boat. I know the 450s are stooooopid expensive so don't know if it could be built for 100k ish???

Why is a OB more reliable than a closed cooled motor like these that the ski boat market uses? What are they made of that the salt doesn't bother the blocks? This one has headers but others use manifolds, and its 550HP.
Marine power sales them for 25K ready to drop into a bravo boat, two year warranty.

I would say it is more the other components that get the issues. While overall my MAG 496's where good and never had a major issue. I CONTSTNTLY had sensor issues on them at all times. If I would have had a single engine boat I would have been towed home more than I wish, thankfully I had 2 engines and never needed that tow. I had no less than 5-8 senor related issues to those motors if not more.
Our V-max O/B and our Honda O/B were both flawless and never once left us stranded or dead, never even a single sensor issue and the Honda o/B had over 800hrs on it.
This is a big reason (along with ride comfort) that I would want a 28-32' boat if I ever went i/o again, I would want 2 motors. I will never own or trust a single engine i/o boat again be it a power boat or even a cruiser.

I understand what you are saying there, but it would be interesting to know why a OB sensor lasts any longer then a I/O. The "sensor" has no idea what its on. Maybe they just do a better job at designing them, for whatever reason. I do get having more room in whatever size boat when it has OB's.

A custom builder can probably build a 25 go-fast single V outboard with a 300R for $125,000. A well laid up boat with a good bottom, no amenities and proper rigging would be a very fun lake boat. Tuff builds a beautiful 24 footer if speed and styling are at the top of your list and Progression builds a 24 with a small cabin.
