He’s saying the Outerlimits isn’t a real 50ft running surface as shown by the picture of the huge bustle. I could be wrong but the biggest true non bustled bottom OL ever had was a 47..... So in theory the 50 marauder has a longer true running surface than any OL. Same as when the 31 Excalibur magically became a 35 Fountain with a beak and swim platform...

I agree, I dig the SV50...I think it’s the sharpest big vee currently being built, now if they could only fill in the void created by the drive awning and get the jewelry at the rear out where it can be seen;)

I think the bustle is a great feature. I don’t own a OL, but we do a lot of hanging out at the back of the boat, and it’s nice to not have to worry so much about the sharps hanging out so far. Something I’ve always thought about. Ascetically it makes the boat more streamlined where the back of the boat almost seems to end just above the water line.

Both cool boats but when comparing used, if value is at all important, then it's really going to come down to just that. We would need full details on each used boat to help you figure out which is a better value.

Where do you plan on running? What type of events? Cruise speed and top speed expectations. I have so many questions would be so much easier over the phone lol.

Cost of ownership will be huge if you plan on using it much. Also downtime during repairs and routine maintenance like engine freshening seems to always take longer than expected. Just some things to consider when selecting used.

My first advice when buying a FAST offshore boat is get a sitdown. Standing up is like kissing your cousin! Its just so wrong especially when going over 100. Sit down with a wrap around windshield feels oh so right. Do you drive a Ferrari standing up? What about making a suburban into a ZR1 so you have more "cabin" space? There's always a compromise and the larger the cabin the worse the boat runs. So if performance is truly your thing look seriously into sitting down.

With that being said I'm a HUGE Cigarette fan, overall they just are the best. I would take a Cig over an SL anyday.

Have you considered any other brands? That Adrenaline Is an pretty AMAZING boat.

Please keep us updated! I'm just thankful you are not buying a LAME Center Console :lolhit:

SV fountains got the transoms chopped and narrowed, as they found speed everytime they made it smaller

Buying used, you will have a small sample of each to choose from. Consider also when you want to sell it the market can be tough:

I'm a CIG guy but nobody can deny that OL that JaayTee posted looks good. A lot of the OL's are too wild for my tastes - the paint is just gaudy sometimes. The beauty of CIG is that you can call them anytime you want and order a $150 towel which your kids will immediately get Gatorade on, or a medium Pink shirt because that's all they have in stock.....

There may be a bit more to that story.......
Date added was 2006 but the boat wasn't built until 2008????
Might have used an old ad and updated with a newer boat? Certainly needs an explanation.

Cig should really should capitalize on that logo apparel. No argument it is likely the most well known brand in the performance boat category (cigarette boat is like calling every soda a coke, every tissue a kleenex......proprietary eponyms). Not everyone will buy a boat but they likely can afford a t-shirt/hat/towel. Look at what Harley sells, literally EVERYTHING they can print a logo on. I can see Skip not wanting to bother with small items, the hassle of tracking/selling/shipping but he should partner with a vendor that does that stuff and just collect a royalty or hire a marketing kid out of college to run the apparel division. If they sell 1000 shirts at $25 and 1000 hats at $20 that is $45,000 (gross). Could they sell 20 shirts a week, 20 hats a week. Probably. They used to sell a decent amount of stuff at the Miami show when they were in the convention center.

On the ugly paint, OL did have a run of "whew what were they thinking" but all manufacturers have done bad paint. Cig has had plenty, bad theme boats (spiderman, stealth and weird boats like the pink 38 w/496s) but keep in mind most of this stuff was ordered and picked by the first owner/ ordering dealer. Not sure who started the OUTERLIMITS written down the side in 3 ft letters but that is garish. Running it down the deck seems ok, but the hullsides is over the top.

Maybe the client listed it when it got ordered thinking it would be a demo type deal. Well its turned into a long demo ride.......Its been for sale for years so I can believe the 70,000 views

for those responding with silly (for not using another word) comments:

1. I said I was a Newbie to performance boats, not a Newbie to racing or other high performance activities

2. I said I either owned or have owned boats, so not quite the idiot of the village that doesn’t know how or what he is doing, other than asking for some smart advice if available

3. At least in private, one of the moderators was class enough to provide some quite good points and thanks for this.

Thanks for those that helped, as far as as the others go, thanks for at least keeping the thread a bit current ;-)

I apologize for the skepticism. There’s been a number of similar posts by people trolling.

Welcome to OSO. lots of good info on here. Both great boats. Most likely will both have Merc turbo power. At that level, You really can’t go wrong either way frankly. Check em both out and get the one that gives you that gitty feeling. ;) :D

serialcollector 02-22-2020 12:50 PM

Thanks for the welcome. I went for the OL, but haven’t gotten the Cig itch out, so watch this space ;-)

Congrats!! hopefully you can share what you got and post some pics. Would love to see it. And yeah, if you got the means to get one of each, put one on each coast or different continents. :D

oh! And if you need a good high end certified mechanic, I know a guy ;);)

3 is still listed, gotta go 4 hasn’t been listed publicly for a little bit, the burgundy and white 50 (same colors and scheme that cig chose for the new 515) listing is gone. Anyone of them are sweet boats

pm203 02-22-2020 01:54 PM

Both nice boats, but I would stick with Cigarette for the better resale value.

Funny, I bought those towels and our kids did just that!

phragle 02-22-2020 04:11 PM

speaking of shirts.. if you have an OL don't you have to get a bunch of sublimated shirts so everybody matches ?

serialcollector 02-23-2020 09:54 AM

Should have the OL delivered in Miami end of next week :-)

looking at the CIG too though. But the OL had the edge in terms of finish and the overall carbon structure. Speed was also a factor as I have other boats that do other “jobs”, but I agree that getting the Cigarette bug out of the system is part of it.

i will also attend a performance boat course, knowing that I have raced cars professionally for over 20 years.

awesome ! Congrats. Which OL!!???

speicher lane 02-23-2020 11:19 AM

Congrat's on the OL, there is a reason they have a following (and the fact that Scotto keeps building them like Ron (Flightclub) with his Skaters)

You had a win with either brand. Enjoy!

IGetWet 02-23-2020 11:22 AM

Congrats! Pics!

speicher lane 02-23-2020 04:27 PM

OP, if you are ever contemplating putting off the performance boat school - do a quick search for LOTO boat crash with the Fountain full of people. Stepped hulls and assumed experience causes a person to run out of talent with disastrous consequences.....and the big boats give a false sense of security over something 20' shorter.

You may find its a prerequisite with your insurance provider and/or discount in the policy as well as the added benefit of being able to run the boat out for max performance and comfort as Tres and co. train you in your own boat.

just $0.02... enjoy!

serialcollector 02-23-2020 05:05 PM

I can’t seem to post pictures. It’s OL SL50 GottaGo. Should have it in the water in a week.

speicher lane 02-23-2020 05:21 PM

you need 10 posts to put up pics....which "gotta go" - Scotto has a few to his credit.

Most people rifle off posts just to hit 10

serialcollector 02-23-2020 05:22 PM

2016 blue green and exposed carbon fiber on 1350/1550s.
