Very tough market for a 50 marauder.
The one with trip 1075‘s is going to be nearly impossible to sell.

The boat should only have twins and with trips only running 115 is a dog. Old engine technology. Cost to maintain three 1075’s Is more than the cost to buy the boat. Cockpit position is the old design that is moved too far forward. Also the paint is not appealing to the majority.

This boat will be bought by someone that really does not know what they are buying or what the cost of ownership is going to be.
Or buy the boat for parts.

I can’t even say it will sell for 200K

Selling Triple boats is nearly impossible these days. A 40' Fiore that was in perfect shape couldn't be given away for 60K and the power had 40 hours on it. I know that it actually finally did sell for 44,000. Pretty much the value of the engines.....maybe. lol

Awesome boat. Stay safe and enjoy. :)
Get that driving course under your belt before doing this......

P.S. I hope I've got the right boat!

Right boat indeed

I am an avid V-Bottom performance boater, former racer and have run high performance boats for over 30 years. (raced for 5 years and run speedboats from 20-50+ in length.)
I currently own a 38' Donzi ZRC (since 2007) which runs 110+ mph.
I have had extended wheel time behind multiple Outerlimits, Cigarettes, Donzis and other V bottoms.
Both Cigarette and Outerlimits are at the top of the food chain quality wise (Ferrari & Lamborghini) but differ majorly in the way they run.
The Outerlimits HP for HP will be faster than pretty much any V bottom out there. That said, there are some draw backs. The multiple steps, light weight layups, and carbon / epoxy materials make them run and ride significantly different than more traditional stepped hull boats. The multiple steps get you extra speed but create a unique driving experience at higher speeds (sort of a loose car on gravel feel). The light weight and rigid materials create a very stiff ride so you do feel the bumps and ripples more than in a heavier fiberglass resin boat.
The Cigarette will be slower but will ride much smoother and when the water gets real rough, that is where it will really shine.
It really comes down to what you plan to do with the boat, where you boat and what you prefer ride quality to speed. Again there is nothing wrong with the ride in an Outerlimits, its just like comparing a track only car to a fast street car.
The only thing I would really stay away from would be any triple engine boats (maintenance and resale nightmare).
There are pluses and minuses to older power (1075 Blower motors) vs. newer power (1100/1350 turbo motors)

Hope that helps a little and good luck!

So I'm curious with all the talk about the trip boats just how hard it would be to strip one down and rebuild it as a twin? I would assume you could get quite a bit out of the engine and 6 drive you take out to help with the cost of doing the project right.

I thought about that as well. Would require a ton of work but maybe a chance to make more on it that way? I’d probably pull the motor and the drives, sell them separately, and set it up for twins, replace transom etc, maybe put two drives back on but let a buyer add there own power. But it’d be a lot of work to get it to that point.

Wow that thing moves! I’m thinking that was 1550hp setting?

Likely not. She does 144+ MPH in 1350 mode according to my research. In this video it showed around 235kph which is right at 145. As said above, it's one of the fastest OL V-hulls going for its layout. OP bought a complete gem.

looking at the CIG too though. But the OL had the edge in terms of finish and the overall carbon structure. Speed was also a factor as I have other boats that do other “jobs”, but I agree that getting the Cigarette bug out of the system is part of it.

i will also attend a performance boat course, knowing that I have raced cars professionally for over 20 years.

That's a good choice and your passengers will most likely appreciate the sound reduction in the cockpit with the bustle. We prefer the straight pipe roar of our classic Formula but that is all preference, at some point i'm sure we will tire of the noise.

Wasn't there a beautiful blue 50 Cig with 1150s for sale for a while in OSO Classifieds? I don't see it any longer. I loved that boat. If I ever hit the Lotto, that's the one I would buy.

Its still listed at ACM. But it wouldn't have near the performance that OL has. Both the maximus' forsale right now are nice pieces.

serialcollector 02-25-2020 01:37 PM

When I chose the OL over the Cigarette - I went for outright performance and also looking at one in detail for a very nice fit and finish around more “modern” materials.

My take on a Cig 50 is that you still buy a fast boat - albeit much much slower - but you buy into a legendary brand, which is why I am thinking of getting one regardless.

hogie roll 02-25-2020 06:12 PM

Cigarettes kilo 46 with the open top and windshield is really cool, I like it better than the max. What was that boat called? I can’t find it

That 46 was on display at Holiday Isle for Miami boat show run we did several yrs ago and I fell in love with it.

the OL will be faster no doubt but in no way will it be nicer. I wish you luck with your new boat, stay safe

Our doors are always open at the factory. I urge you to look at the quality of our latest products and judge for yourself.

Unlimited jd 02-25-2020 07:27 PM

I was discussing some of that with jay this morning, while admiring the op’s new boat. Anyone that disagrees with the outerlimits having the best fit, finish and rigging needs to stop in and take a tour.

kilo boat when it was all white and canopied (Ran sustained 172 but two way run was like 163 or something. Got too squirly with no pad bottom).

Tom A. 02-26-2020 01:34 PM

Congrats on buying the Outerlimits! You will not be disappointed. Make sure you talk to Dan (OL40SVX) - he is the man at OL!

On a side note, the triple boats for the right price would make great diesel conversions for 70-80mph Island hopping wave crushers.

Great point. 95 hours in a year is actually really high! Most people put that type of hours on a boat in like 5 years. LOL
