Key West is getting hostile!
https://www.sun-sentinel.com/coronav...fzy-story.html
One or more of about 20 college-aged people smacked a 61-year-old man and his daughter in the head with baseball bats after being warned about social distancing because of the coronavirus crisis, authorities said Monday. The attack happened Saturday evening on Wisteria Island, off Key West, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office |
Wow!
How fkd up is that? Just, wow! What happened to our society? |
Time to call out the A** whipping crew! Young generation don’t respect us older folks when they are told something!

last time I looked a double stack mag outdid a dumbass with a bat - TOTAL self defence!
|
Paywall......details please. I hope they arent locals, but with the hotel lockdown in the Keys, they might be locals.
|
What the Hell is wrong with people these days, I do salute him for saying something to them. But when you confront that many people after they have been drinking all day nothing good is going to happen. Hope they find these $hitbags.

Self righteous old dude should mind his own business.
Probably a sail boater |
Getting hostile last boat race I attended Duval St slug fest we ran back to rooms!:argue:
|
.
grandpa was proly just trying to warn the college-aged party goers about the the state mandate to not group in larger numbers...or the police might come down and get them all of the island and anyone else that might come along in days to come, especially folks living on sailboats grandpa maybe should not have taken the law into his own hands, should'a called 911 . |
Pa should just have moved on, kids don't give a sh!t, and they definitely don't give a sh!t if they're being told. The kid with the bat needs busted, or better yet his head caved in. Total loser pu$$y move.
|
Those young people gathering like that will only spoil it for everyone as boating will be banned. As things warm here in Michigan I sure hope that there are no sandbar parties or raft ups. As of now boating is an approved activity here.
|
That island sounds like trouble, a lot of homeless people living on the island.
|
Give it some more time and it will be happening everywhere...

Funny last week I was saying the same thing but it was regarding property crime/theft. I was in a 7/11, very busy part of town but borders the ghetto. Guy comes in, well dressed and stuffs a beer in his pants/covers his with his shirt and walks out. Gets into a newer Impala with temp tags on it and drives off. I was 3 ft from him and first thought this could be a robbery set up (fumbling in his pants, was he pulling a gun to rob the place?). I figured the guy is getting away with a $3-4 beer, I'm not getting shot/thumped in the face for a can of beer. Same thought should have come to the old man in the keys.......20 kids drinking vs. a 61 yr old is bad odds. |

Agree and think there was more than a simple get out of here for them to thump him with a Bat.
Still really, you use a freaking BAT on a old dude? In FL? Lucky they didn't get shot. Maybe it was a long bat and their way of social distancing. Really a BS move on the kids part and they should be arrested they easily could have killed him or caused a TBI. As I get older I try to make wiser decisions and tend to let things go that really don’t matter. |
Totally indefensible. Not only did these cowardly punks hit a 61-year-old with a bat, they (per the news story), hit his 21-year-old daughter with a bat.
I don't care what the man said. The legal penalty for popping off—as far as I know anyway—is not getting assaulted. Anyone justifying this for any reason has lost his mind. |
Any follow up to this story?

She and her father approached the crowd and confronted them about social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The White House has issued guidelines that people not gather in groups of 10 of more. They also told the group to keep the noise down, police reported..............here is where the trouble started! https://www.miamiherald.com/news/loc...241804781.html |
Cruised around that island this year during key west i definitely noticed some shady transient boats anchored in that mooring field. I agree though, taking a swing at someone with a bat could be a life altering decision for both parties. The father and daughter are lucky there not seriously hurt . Unacceptable behavior but something doesn’t add up ....

Completely inexcusable to take a bat to someone’s head (male / female/ old / young) over a disagreement. Total coward, chicken sh*t thing to do and I hope they catch the POS thug that did that.
with that said, mind your F’n business and have some common sense. You’re 61 and gonna go contact a bunch of drunk kids and try to tell them they should be social distancing and to keep the noise down? What the hell does this guy think is gonna happen?! Idiot move. Especially stupid to put his daughter in that position. Just plain stupidity and entitlement. |

Probably a sail boater When you make a lot noise, you make it everyone's business whether they want it their business or not. How about shut the F up with your partying or take it somewhere else where you aren't bothering everyone in the harbor? |
IME I’ve by far had the worst road rage encounters with older men, multiple occasions. The only thing saving their old entitled asses was me knowing how bad it would look for a guy in his 30s to beat down a frail 60+ y/o.

Top that with the fact that 99% of the grey hairs are on a chitload of medication and are usually not of sound mind or are edgy to begin with due to said medication. Lets be honest, what does it take to punch and knock out a 100 pound 80 year old man. ....A strong gust of wind. This is Florida, aka "Heavens Waiting Room" they came here to die - literally. Give them at least a little respect, dignity and patience. Had an old man go ballistic on me yesterday because I didnt give him enough room on the walking trail - mind you, he was on a bike. The bike trail is a full 10 feet away but he thought it was appropriate (for him and his wife) ride his bike on the walking path. He went full on F-word. I did what the old man in Key West SHOULD have done, shook my head, ignored him and kept walkin. If you are going to walk into a large group or any altercation, you just exposed yourself - so why bother? Top that with the fact that if you do end up taking a trip to the hospital - if you didnt have Corona, you sure as heck will after a trip to the hospital. |

LOL,,, hey wait we are talking about old guys and I just remembered, I am a old guy!

Lol. Just for the record I don’t think 61 is “waiting to die” or even really that old now-a-days. My dads 81 and looks and acts like he’s 55. My point was less about age and more about making a very stupid decision and worse dragging his daughter into it. Don’t think by any means he deserved to get piped in the head but I’m not surprised a confrontation ensued. Stevie wonder could see that coming! Some personal responsibility and common sense could have prevented that. You can’t control how others act and frankly it’s not his job. If they were bothering him and committing a crime (don’t even know if they were) he should have called the water patrol and moved along. Does it suck that a group of dipsh*ts were being loud and disturbing his nice day? Yeah. But again stupid to put yourself in a position like that. And I see it all too often. Entitled people behaving in a manner with ZERO considerations for the consequences or consideration of the fact there’s a lot of unstable people out there. You never know who you’re flipping off or blowing up at. Is being confrontational and making sure someone knows how you feel about something really worth the potential fall out? Well, Not on this case it appears.

None, as you point out, validate or justify assault. I'm not at all surprised, either, by the violent response from self-absorbed punks. And unless one of them invaded my current six feet of personal space, I'd have kept my mouth shut. But people do dumb things when—right or wrong— they're afraid. For those who see 61 as particularly old, I'm 59 (and have a successful, self-sustaining 26-year-old son and 22-year-daughter, both of whom I'd dis-own if they behaved as these thin-skinned 20-somethings did) and put in 10 interesting mountain bike miles yesterday, and will again today. You more-youthful folks are welcome to join me next time you make it to Napa and drag me around the trails. :) I have extra bikes if needed. |

I agree. I’ve definitely put myself in stupid situations a time or two. ;) and if this dude pulled out a gun and dumped the guy with the bat my point would still stand - you never know who you’re f*cking with and most of the time, it isn’t worth it. Most of the time it’s better to (as Keith pointed out above) take the higher road, shake your head and move on (and that goes for all involved - loud music and you don’t agree about someone’s “social distancing”? Move along...angry dude and his daughter telling you to turn down the music and social distance, um ok. Whatever). But it seems now days entitlement and anger rules so many. And I will say if there’s one thing I’ve learned throughout my career is this - people HATE being told what to do or that they are wrong. And most of the time it will absolutely insight rage.

Look at this island from Google Earth and see all the Blue Tarp Homes on the island, I'm sure they have problems often.
|
I’m 60 and was thinking the same.
My wife has kept me in the car a number of times when my balls were thinking for my brain.. I used to be a bit of a trouble maker in my earlier days but once people started pulling guns, that was it for me. I always said I was willing to get my ass beat for what I believed in but not killed. Now it’s way worse. Young people in the hood w/no regard to human life, thugs in cars that are packin’, etc, etc. Watch the news and see what people die for. I loved the part in Clint Eastwood’s Gran Torino where the thugs confront him and he says, “you know the one guy you ****ed with that you knew you shouldn’t have? That guy is me.”
