Today's local newspaper said the boat is in 178 feet of water and state environmental agency states the boat must be removed !

Our friends in "G Spot" a 45' Cruisers were first on scene and rescued the 10 people on board. We were close by anchored and swimming so when we heard "rescued" we almost laughed wondering why such a big deal. Well there were multiple elderly adults, one person paralyzed from the neck down, and an autistic child. The boat sank in under 9min.

Bad luck about the boat but extremely lucky good help was nearby. According to the article in the link, the VHF call may have saved the day. I don't always trust media reports but nonetheless, keep your VHF in good order and know how to operate it.

The new VHF’s will communicate w/your GPS.
Push one button on the VHF and it broadcasts a “mayday” w/your latitude and longitude. All my boats have had that since it came out.
