Slow speed rolls do occur with cats. Unlike a conventional V a cat is running on sponsons which by default slower speeds(contact with water) act like big rudders and can easily overtake the amount of force a rudder or drive can input into the equation, especially if motors trimmed in . If the weight shifts to the outside and the sponson (by nature of its shape from the bow or water conditions) begins to hook around the ability to correct becomes difficult. Most who run a cat have felt the little hook at one point or another. In racing we use this effect to do very sharp high speed turns, Trim tight and controlled hooking the boat. aka glory moves. You only get so many in your deck .. when you run out. your bank account pays the price.

The outboard Nortech that the driver and passenger died in on the Detroit River this summer also was described as rolling. No follow on information from that incident has been published.

I just heard, as of today: the MO Water Patrol still has control of the boat pending investigation. The Tow Company is in possession of the boat and Owner has made contact. But no other info available.

Nobody here has anything on lockdown. Th info was even thin when I was AT THE LAKE this past weekend.

As stated, what I know or heard was on FB and very limited. I will not assume anything that may prove to be true or false at this point.

What I did hear is, it was in the dark, he was alone, he is fine, and the boat has very minor damage beyond the motors.

Glad he's ok.

A roll at "night" speeds? Definitely more to the story here........
