You really have to understand though what you're getting for the taxes you're paying because it can vary so much.

My primary residence is about .72/1000 - but you pay for sewer, trash, bulk pickup is limited and you have to coordinate, but free access to the local dump. No public transportation. Fantastic school system.

I have a couple rental houses in a neighboring City and I think the rate is about 1.20/1000 - but you get unlimited bulk pickup at the curb, leaf pickup and I believe sewer is included and they have public transportation. Much lower quality schools and those that are able, generally send to private.
