In an ironic twist and after posting on this thread a few days ago, I tested positive yesterday. Been feeling a bit off, minor sinus infection, but I decided to get tested prior to Christmas eve parties. I don't feel that bad, in fact, I almost went to the gym yesterday before i decided to get tested. Christmas is now shot to hell.
Doesn't change my mind at all about the vaccine. If this were 2019, I'd probably have gone to a party, refused handshakes or hugs and stayed away from folks. Not a big deal at all.. |
I am an "essential" worker in a large manufacturing facility where we have had multiple cases both in the facility and my immediate group. The vast majority have minor problems with a couple of notable exceptions-- 2 guys my age spent weeks in the hospital and one other lost both his parents in a 5 day window. I'm in for the shot as soon as it becomes available as I am looking forward to a long and prosperous retirement.

Fauci VS Faucism
Gates VS Gates of helll ”Just Sayin” |
I'm 76 and my health is very good and I'm in the next tier (1b) and will get the two step vaccine, my wife will also when her turn arrives, so will our children and grandkids based on discussion with multiple physicians in our family. There are risks with most vaccines but I weight my decision against a rare but worse case scenario, a visit to ICU and a ventilator. I'll report back if I turn green, have facial palsy, viagra stops working or turn socialist.

The shot
First, I am not a liberal, socialist, or a Democrat. I am a lucky survivor of a 4 month hospital stay 6 years ago. I had triple bypass surgery in October 2014. At some point, (probably dropped) , I suffered 4 broken ribs that lead to extreme double pneumonia , coded, revived, and had a trac and put on a ventilator. I was on that ventilator for 6 weeks. In mid December, I got to go home. After 4 days, I was still very weak and went back in the hospital. After a week, my condition had improved and I was on scheduled to leave the hospital again. On Christmas Eve, I coded again and this time, I had MRSA bacterial pneumonia. I had another. trac and put back on a ventilator.. I was in a medically induced coma. After another 6 weeks on the ventilator, I was getting well again but then I came down with c- dif ". All the antibiotics had killed the good bacteria. I finally got out of the hospital in late February and was sent home on oxygen. After 3 months of physical therapy, I was able to get off oxygen. I did suffer permanent heart and lung damage, but I am still alive and can still enjoy boating, hunting, watching sports. I am limited in what I can do, but I still love living and all that goes with it.
My attitude on the vaccine is different than most of the posters on this thread. Today, I can’t see my friends or do much but stay at home, wear my mask, socially distance, use hand sanitizer, or wash my hands. I hate being a hostage to this virus. My only chance to realistically get out and resume my life is to be vaccinated. I have not seen my patents in 3 months because they are in the high 80’s. I am no fan of government overreach and I am a strong conservative with some libertarian leanings. I hate the nanny state and certainly don’t want to defend the police. In my case, I want and need the vaccine. I am not ready to die and I certainly don’t want to pass the virus to my family or friends. |
I think most people on this thread support choices. I respect our freedom to make those choices which you should be allowed to make depending on your personal situation. My fear is when I'm told I'm allowed to have a choice or opinion just as long as the Government or others agree with it.

I was born in Czechoslovakia and my parents escaped communism when I was 10.
All the things my parents gave up and had to endure to get here LEGALLY was rough and tough on me and my brother including living in Germany as refugees. These spoiled little Democrat fu ckers who want Bernie or Biden or AOC have no idea what they coul dbe in for . Been there done that and had to give up everything to escape it . Government overreach is a slippery slope and Democrats and communist have A LOT in common and it makes me sick. |
