I came here to research and buy an offshore boat and an Apache is on my short list. There was a 28 foot brave that allegedly had a 300k restoration done at the factory that started out at 115k and eventually went down half of that--had tacky period chromalusion paint and a really plain interior that would have had to be redone. The other one that caught my eye claimed to have a million dollar restoration done and the asking price was about 250k if my memory serves me right.--so figure you will get back ~ 25 cents on the dollar. I did find a clean Warrior with fresh mechanicals but once any insurance company found out it had "big power" the premiums were outrageous.

Bottom line is mechanical repairs, restoration, and insurance have gotten so expensive that most old boats just aren't worth the cost to save IMHO.

Most motorsports go through ups and downs, old Harleys, Corvettes, and muscle cars. I remember buying a 72 Olds. 442 for 475.00 back in 1980. Sure it needed work but I had more time and resources than money. For some it is the satisfaction of owning something they always wanted, and enjoy working to make it what they want. Most owners realize you will never re-coop the money you have in them, but if you enjoyed restoring and using it, you won. Unfortunately with the cost and limited availability of the new boats the older ones become the only options for some.

I thought about selling but everything out there is a start over project.
Those boats that have been redone and sold for pennies on the dollar ( thats what mine would be) are gone.
So if there`s nothing to buy , I`m not selling either .
Might as well just keep pouring money into mine since I know every nut and bolt.

Ive come to the realization that $75k is going to about the minimal for a boat that I would want. Everything below that needed too much love and I just dont have the time for a basket case. The age of a boat doesn't bother me so much as the modern upgrades etc.

Don’t know if it’s the same in America but Australia is experiencing a shortage of boats due to COVID.

With interstate border closures and international travel shut down, the huge number of Aussies who love traveling are stuck. Many have put their holiday dollars and time into boats they can keep enjoying long term while staying home.

The ‘hole’ created by the GFC is still with us too. The lack of boats built for a few years from 2008 will take a long time to get over.

Chris (Dealmaker) has his Cafe Racer for sale, he just had the interior redone. The boat used to belong to Seaford guy and is listed on F book.
