Your funny, apparently you havn't been to the Midwest. Lake Mead is nothing and yes.... I have lived in both places. I would guess the 3 ugliest areas are Hanover Inlet, Lake Superior, (OK, actually any of the Great Lakes) and LOTO. LOTO has the smallest waves, no doubt but it is seriously rough due to the bath tub washing machine waves.
