Boat Market is INSANE!
I was looking to move over from my 32' Fountain CC into a Cat.. But these old 28 skaters are extremely expensive, I saw a 1999 28' skater for $130k.... I could just buy a brand new hellkat 30' with 300r's for that price... I even looked at some old spectre's and they're beat up and expensive... We need more companies like Hellkat, delivering these boat at a much lower price point then their competitors. Maybe that will drive prices down. This sector has been priced out by the rich...

Yeah think, price out a used Cigarette, they are up $100k or more over what they were 7 years ago for the same boat, some people are cleaning up, IF they want to sell them. never seen so few Cigarettes for sale in the last 20 years which is another reason they are so expensive

I don't follow the prices either. I thought Howard was offering the 255 VTX boat with single 350 for around $130K MSRP and that's quite a bit more boat than a 23 velocity with outboards. I couldn't tell you the difference in build other than the velocity is supposed to be an all composite boat. I priced out a new 33 Ocean Hawk capable of 70mph for $170-180K probably didn't include a trailer, but that is near 36ft of boat with all composite construction capable of rough sees at speed.
I'm not really seeing any overpriced old cigarettes move though.

And it is the same hull as the 22 with some stupid looking wings added to it. Might be a nice boat but I doubt you'll see many of them, it is a totally ridiculous price, you can probably get a 27 progression for that kind of money.

not may boats have been made in the last 15 years the bust took a toll on the used market . now you see a ton of what I consider over priced brand new cc and small ob cats. how many 28 skaters have been made since 2010? along with the list of other brands cig, velocity, fountain, donzi, formula and so on. supply in demand I guess.

What gets me about the new OB cats talk about easy rigging, everything is on the buss. All you need is a little power for some lights and a stereo, everything else is plug in the screens and controls!
But everyone is selling them ( all boats) and backed up so you can't blame them.

Only like 5 to 10 skater 28s have been made since 2010. I think they are up to about 135 total made with 100 of them between 1992 and 2000. They are holding their value so well because they are built and perform better than other similar cats. I also agree with the comment on supply and demand. When a new one is going to cost you 250 plus suddenly a nice used one at half that price looks pretty good.
