If you have no family, are passionate about this project, and have cubic dollars available, I say do it.
Regarding the "fresh" engines, without scoping the cylinders for rust and priming the oiling system then firing them up, assume they need freshened
All that has been said is correct, I bought a running/driving boat a few years ago believing I could get a few seasons without spending much on it. I was wrong, I got one tank of fuel before it hit the fan, one thing leads to another and so on..... now I have double invested in it to what I could get out of it, and still have more I could do.

The way it was being described I was pretty damn sure that it was an original (first run) Cig 28SS and lo and behold ..
Unquestionably it's a mess but could it be a diamond in the rough and not really as bad as the present condition reflects ?
For those in the know out there , were the vintage Cigs prone to more , less or the same chances of rot compared to other brands under the same usage and maintenance conditions ?

it will cost you about 1 thousand dollars in all the material needed to get you to this point the boat in the picture is at and take a full month of 8 hour days to do it.
Let me throw in my 2 cents, start dating strippers, you'll spend waaaay less money and when you realize what you got yourself into you can walk away.
If you buy and undertake such an ambitious project , As you work on it, it starts to make sense to spend more money so it'll be nicer, then since it's gonna be nicer, might as well spend more money and get nicer stuff.
kinda like this video.

Two conditions make projects doable....
#1 you already have a dependable boat to run.
#2 something inherently special about the project boat.

someone once asked me why I never took pictures of the projects I have built. my answer was I never wanted to look back at the pictures and be reminded that I was stupid enough to take on the project.
