Default Trim Tab Oil Usage?

Hello everyone! I have Dana 1000 trim tabs on the boat I bought. When I bought the boat the oil reservoirs were half full. After running the boat for several hours they were just about empty. I filled them with steering fluid and after running another couple hours they we down to the refill line on the tank. Fitting are tight and I don't see any excess oil leaking from anywhere so I'm wondering if this is normal and if anyone else has had this problem? Thank you in advance for the help!

ditto. bring them to hydraulic shop or buy a kit to rebuild them yourself.

Thanks all for the help. That's what I figured but thought I'd double check.
