We built what you are thinking of doing we used an 24 or 25 active thunder hull that was like new used a hi performance xr transome a bravo XR 380 tabs and close to 800 hp natural aspirated we use a 26p bravo prop and run it deep the hull has no steps its the most fun turn key does not break can carry 8 people and get on plane it really winds out up to 6800 on a very cool day. when we built the engine we killed the low end torque and put it on top like a truck puller....its just the most fun bang for your buck i have ever been involved with it runs into the 90s we call it thunder therapy and it sure is after a long week.... enjoy your build! and yes we could go faster but you start to lose driveability as you raise the drive and get into custom props it ended up being driver ed to teach my son how to drive fast in all conditions as we are restoring an 388 with big power but not so forgiving to learn on......just to show how old school i am we have never left the dock with out every one wearing a life vest! you can build a simple reliable fun predictable boat just think it out....you are welcome to come for a ride if you are in the lake ontario area

27 Fountain is about 24' lol
Sorry. I know I deserve any heat I get for that shot, but I have an almost pavlovian compulsion to swing at stuff going slow over the middle of the plate.
+1 RE Tuff Boats, they're badass, but I'm thinking you're looking for an older boat to re-power ?
There's a few still around & If you could find one, Challenger Boats out of MI made a pretty cool 24 which ran well..
Personally, I think I'd lean toward some sort of air entrapment boat ...there's a Talon I/O by me that runs good & I've always loved the old classic Eliminator Daytona hulls like their 23'..... I think Stoker made a cool I/O but it might be only 22'.
If you're not into air entrapment, don't forget west coast stuff - Laveycraft, Hallett, Nordic, etc ...I think Warlock made a 24ish V as well...my perception is they're all a "smaller water go fast hull"
The real trick right now is finding a used hull the owner doesn't think a bag of gold is hidden in.
Good luck
