Perhaps you could share some of the recommendations made by Tres Martin as far as size and Vee or cat, power, speed, etc.

I have been a long time reader of the forum…I just got my first “go almost fast” boat. One hangup I never considered past $ was that every insurance company required that I had owned a boat within 20 mph of the new boat I purchased. Didn’t matter what I had captained, I had to own and insure it. Speed was not the only consideration…it was speed and replacement value. Had it been expensive and slow, no problem…fast and cheap, maybe. My boating history and my insurance company having insured my other boats for the past decade with no claims simply didn’t matter.

So, consider that you may be self insured until you get some experience. I think the school will help you with insurance but the 20mph thing was a hard point. Best advice in here was buy a 35-40 foot 80mph boat and use it for 6 months. If you are committed to this big boat and lifestyle, that is a short time investment and you’ll need to have something to jerk around on while this big bad boat is being built over the next 2 years lol.

There was a nice Formula 292 FasTech listed here on OSO a couple of days ago. Looked beautiful by the pictures. Also said he put it in OSO classifieds.

No Big Bad Boat Brother! Lol . But , I was also told by Mr. Martin, that there is only 2 insurance companies now that are even insuring now. The third one is not putting true value of boat. He also said you have to hold a title for a year, as you said with a less powerful boat. To consider get a Cigarette 700’S or less. As you noted he said 100mph or less , I agree as he said you want a boat that cruises in the mid 70’s but if you need it , it can go into the 90’s. It’s difficult finding a boat of the size he mentioned a 39’ Top Gun or 42X with 700’s or less. The ones I have found are 1100’s to 1100’s/1350’s, which will push that boat to 115-120mph. So, he said there will be boats up for sale in the next 45 days, season will be over for up north. The other issue is I need to be looking for 2012’- Newer, because you would want the Vessel View and digital electronics, which started after 2007’. Performance Boat Center has several Cigarettes, but as I stated bigger engines only. Hopefully I find one. Thank You very much Brother for the insight, I really appreciate it. I wish the best for you and your Family, and enjoy your new boat! Peace
