Good evening to all. I just recently posted about purchasing first performance boat period. As reading threads, I’m seeing go big if you can! My concern is length verse’s speed. I’m going to Tres Martian school, for boats running 75mph. Just because the boat says 130-60 doesn’t meanI will be running that. I am and will be a responsible heavy safety first boater. I do want a Catamaran, but is 44ft to Big for first? I can obviously afford what ever boat I want, and I mean what ever boats I want. So, 30-50foot. Learning small calm lakes first, before Detroit river and Michigan lakes. 4-5 people at a maximum ride along. Some year, poker runs to! Looking at DCB, Skater, Mti etc, thank you for your help.
It is easy to spend $100K and double that in the first couple years so when money is no object that's what we talk about. We break something for $50K and are back in the water in a week or so. Be prepared and make industry friends quickly or you will be parted from your money quicker.

Assuming that you are as well off as you say buy a 25' vhull to get your feet wet, learn the basics, bounce off the dock a time or two . Then take the class, that way you have a point of reference. After the class step up and buy something bigger more to your liking. A man of your means can certainly afford to lose a bit of money on a "starter boat " .
That said, length = speed. However, there’s limits. First of all, as you get longer, you get heavier; then you need more HP, i.e. more weight - diminishing returns.
That said, (and everyone knows this so no haters) there’s real limitations on top speed as boats get shorter. Sure there’s 70 mph 15’ racing boats, but your not looking for a single seat 500 lbs boat. If you want to go 100 mph, you probably want at least a 28’ boat, but a 35’ boat will go 100 more comfortable than a 28’. The trade off is you need more hp to do it.
Also, there should be some consideration for docking. It’s obviously easier to find docking for a 23’ boat then a 50’ boat. So, depending on where you’re going this could be an important consideration. I know lots of places where docking is tight. Poker runs are not an issue as everyone side-ties as deep as needed.
Sidebar - I was recently on a poker run and some ******* on the dock with five boats side-tied, cut everyone loose cause he needed to leave.
As others have noted, it’s not about how much boat you can buy; it’s how much boat you can support. Racing engines, drives, etc. require more maintenance. Then tilt trailers, pull rigs, etc etc etc. Then, race gas $$$. When you run with the big dogs you need a big checkbook. You say not a problem, but myself and others want you to know what you’re getting into. It’s black American Express time!

Go to Key West in November and view some 40 race boats and talk to the crews. The best fact finding mission where the crews would be happy to enlighten you on your journey. WHM, Allen Lawn Care, Boatfloater, M-Con, FJ Propeller, Sheriff Lobo, Wicked and Outdoor Storage Units to name a few. Some of these guys are engineers who helped design and build their boats and some own marinas. Start from the ground up and learn everything about
the sport including your competitors who may end up being your best friend at a race.
Best of luck on your journey!
