do you live close to where your boat is?
I have my boat at Table Rock Lake in Missouri. I live near Wichita, Kansas. So the boat is about 300 miles from where I live. Makes it a pain to try and do any sort of basic maintenance, etc. Twenty + years ago I kept the boat here at the house, and trailered it that distance. Pros and cons for both. I do miss just being able to go out and tinker.
Same here. For 21 years my boat was either in my garage, in a storage shed, or on a lift in a covered dock 30 min from my house. Now it is 300+ miles away sitting on a lift down at LOTO. My slip lease prohibits me from doing anything over the water concerning oil so I cannot do my own gear lube and oil changes as I have since I’ve owned a boat. If it was an I/O I could still do oil changes but since it is a VRod you’d be draining oil out over the water. Had to learn to trust a shop to do all my maintenance that I historically always have done. Also makes it harder to block out time for cleaning and piddle-farting around with basic fixes and upgrades since once I’m down there I want to just use it. But after 3 seasons I’m finally adjusting to the new reality. I too miss being able to quickly run down to the boat with a cooler and tinker around.

Yep. Lake is about 500 yds from my house.
Had a friend with an old car dealership that I was able to store all of my toys in. Best part was I could go there any day or time and do work on anything. Bike, boat, skis. Was ready come spring time. And gave me something to do over the long, boring winter. |
15 minutes away from the coast in a rack storage building.
Right here. :)
Indoor rack storage 10 minutes from my house. Great guy who runs it. Always let’s me tinker with the boat, cleaning or minor repairs and maintenance. Especially good for the winter months. Going to repair my sun pad and take off my swim platform to powder coat this winter
Mine is 350 miles away at LOTO from May-Oct and in my garage in the off season.
Until a couple months ago mine was in a wonderful building 5 minutes from my house, a 45 minute tow to the St Lawrence River where I boat. The building owner is a 30+ year friend that I paid more than market for the use of the space that decided it was time to sell. Which he did, his right, without ever even mentioning to me he was thinking to do so. I would have would have cut him a check in a heartbeat at his price.
Now; thanks to our infamous Captain Morgan, his contacts, I now have a better storage building. Farther away from my house but only a few minutes away from the River in Clayton, New York. To my pal Bill L,,,,, Kiss my Azz Ftard! Hope you declared all that rental income for the last 15 years. |
Can see the dock from house. Lift during summer, and in the barn during winter
in my side yard
everything is there except its engines.:D,gonna correct that this winter. |
In my back yard, use to keep it in Shell Knob before I built my shop

55 steps down. 55 steps back up though.
I keep mine 20 mins. away in a dry stack. Can piddle with it all I want. Just have to be organized with what you plan on doing and bring what you need. I still forget stuff sometimes.
In the summer, 25 feet away, in the winter, 1600 miles away.
Backyard on a lift during summer. Side of the house in the driveway on blocks during winter.
Dry stacked 10 minutes from house. The marina allows me to do maintenance or upgrades which is nice. I’ve been at this marina for 20 years. Super convenient.

Mine is always in my heated garage at the Beach house 285 miles away. My wife and I both work from home so we now call that the northern office. Only bad part is trying to get through 4' of snow in the winter to get to it. We spend weeks at a time up there so it's really home away from home.

At PBC at LOTO(1350 mi away) April-October and at Haulover(22 miles away) in Winter. We fly to the lake 1-2x a month in season. PBC takes awesome care of us.

All safe at PBC which is ~530 miles away from Lexington. As Greg mentioned.....the service at PBC is second to none and they can fix gremlins on the fly. Something that is challenging locally.
As I said that's an awesome setup you have and if you ever want to get rid of that unsightly toolbox I would be glad to haul it away free of charge. lol
Mine is close, I can keep up on it pretty well.
Pops boat isn’t so close, sometimes my vacations turn into half work days or more. But I love the sport and at the end of the day, there’s not many people that get to do what we do. And it feels good knowing you work on your own chit. |

On trailer at house, or in our community marina 200 yds. from house.
If I had to drive 100's of miles to use my boat I would move or find another hobby. |
