chopper pics/videos are controlled by Stu/FPC so he can easily edit out the PR crashers.

My guess: Stu wants to limit the liability of extra boats possibly not following the rules/safety protocol. How many knuckleheads will drop anchor in the channel to watch the boats speed by? How many will run in the pack to enjoy the experience without paying Stu $1000 (PR fee plus membership). 10 boats mix in the pack = Stu loses $10,000. Event is hectic enough for him to organize the paying guests, no need to map it out for free (but as I posted earlier it is a pretty well known route).

Helicopters are expensive to put in the air. Photographers cost money, too, as does video editing. All require effort.

Why should the Florida Powerboat Club and—more to the point—its paying members, bear those costs?
